Ha! Hilarious. I was just lost in that website to the point where I came back to this thread to re-post it, forgetting that this is where I got it from.

Well I got my Galaxy Nexus and its doing some intense updating now - on the 3rd update atm.
Funny stupid thing - I went to buy it knowing it should be about £299. But in the shop it was £529. I was all "come on be serious that's more than a Galaxy S3 what is up with you its 299 on your website?" And they were all "Sorry that's the price."
Oh hold up. If you get it on a PAYG with a £10 O2 sim it's 299 + the 10 for the sim.
So I bought that.
Numbskulls.

That's somewhat daft. More so the guy not identifying that you can get it cheaper though. They should fire the shit out that guy.

I so much wonder what happened there. It seems like such a stupid, stupid set of mistakes. Does the problem lie with Tom Tom or did Apple fuck it up royally?
faetal on 21/9/2012 at 12:49
You'd have to guess the latter, since TomTom just provided data and presumably they worked fine before, else we'd have a LOLTomTom site.

My rule on portables? One can NEVER have too much storage capacity. I spent the extra $55 and upgraded to the 32 gig (up from the shitty 8 gig) 4th gen. iPod Touch. It is already completely full. Oh, and thanks for the external battery link. I am going to get one for the same iPod Touch . It appears to be compatible.
As for the iPhone 5 (and iPhones in general), I don't mess with them. I prefer my (albeit 1st gen) Droid/iPod Touch combo. Best of both worlds. Though in a couple of years when my iPod starts showing its age, I would definitely look into just getting an iPhone to replace them both at once. I absolutely LOVE this thing, and having a wireless network and a phone attached to it would be great. I already use my gorgeous little Apple device to make calls and text for free when I am attached to Wi-Fi through an app. Basically, I am around wi-fi all day, so it is actually useful. Only time spent in my car is when my droid is my only option for communication. Hell, even at the basketball court I can use wi-fi. Worthington shot up a free network for the downtown area! Shame I live JUST outside its range, I could save myself some serious cheddar by cancelling my 12 megabit AT&T service at home.

The reason I think I'll always stick to Android (or WP8 if it becomes a better OS) is that iOS is tied in to 1 manufacturer. The competition between Samsung / HTC / LG etc.. to make the best Android smartphone has pushed the tech and quality of the handsets to the bleeding edge whereas for the 1st time, Apple doesn't look like an innovative trailblazer so much as a plodding iterative stalwart which plays it safe. Also, once you have bought some apps, you end up tied in to the OS, to the extent that switching OS requires increased motivation to cross that "abandon the paid-for apps" theshold, so I'd sooner be tied in to Android and have a choice of handset manufacturers than stick with Apple and essentially end up with cognitive dissonance every time they release a sub-par new phone.
In other news, Apple "fans" are a bit creepy. I know of 2 friends who own iPhone 4S and queued from 3 am today to get their iPhone 5, despite them being available online - apparently they were too excited and couldn't wait. WTF? Add to this that in some of the London stores, the people in queues are cheering every person who exits with their new iPhone. ಠ_ಠ
Edit - I was recommended one of those external batteries by a friend who swears by them. You get about 2-4 full charges out of it for smart phones.

Comeon, man. Don't you understand how revolutionary a taller iPhone is? No other company has anything even remotely similar! Apple changed everything! Again!
And now that it's out, I bet you're going to see a ton of cheap Asian knockoffs for that shitty droid phone OS that crashes all the time and eats battery life like a fat kid at a buffet. I don't understand how anyone could deny the glory of Apple's innovative designs by buying one of those things.
That's why Steve, who I'm on a firstname basis with despite the fact he's dead, wanted to go thermonuclear on them.

That is the one shitty thing about droids. The suck batteries like a $2 whore. Even the modest ones can't make it through the day, and my roommate's entry-level droid slider cannot charge off of USB. It just keeps it alive but adds no juice.

The latest bench mark I have seen puts the Galaxy S3 as the 2nd longest lasting smart phone, after the Galaxy S. iPhones are pretty notorious for energy consumption too. Smart phones are in general really - price you pay for essentially a palm-sized lap-top. I use an app called Juice Defender which stretches out the life considerably by managing the background services a bit better.
