Since quite a few of us here on these boards, I get the impression, are
pompous asses in possession of an iPhone (or iPod Touch, for that matter), I thought we could have a thread on the games available on these things. Cause frankly, the App Store is pretty pants when it comes to trying to determine what's hot and what's not re: games.
Personally, I only own (
http://www.cowboyrodeo.net/pinballdreaming/)
Pinball Dreams so far
*. It's a great conversion of the Amiga/ PC original, although I did notice the ball glitching every now and then (i.e. being frozen in mid air for a fraction of a second), which isn't really conducive to a game that requires split-second timing. It's a very minor issue, since it only happens very rarely, but it's there. Plus, the game recently got updated, and I haven't played it since then, so the problem might well be gone by now. Also, the game is very sensitive about when you tilt the table, which can result in you losing a go when you didn't intend to.
Beyond that, I've heard good things about the
(http://www.eamobile.com/Web/iphone-games/simcity) Sim City conversion, as well as
(http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/metal-gear-solid-touch-review) Metal Gear Solid Touch.
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_aB_ZkonGw) Edge (link shamelessly stolen from Ulukai) also looks brilliantly barmy. Finally, looks like
(http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/gdc-red-alert-ssx-target-iphone) Red Alert may get the iPhone treatment as well in the future.
Anyone else got any recommendations?

Motherfucking
(http://www.demiforce.com/games.html) Trism.
I am a puzzle game FIEND and this is right up my street. It's the only game I play daily. I'll grab it for a couple of minutes during ad breaks on TV and the like. Get this now. Also, I believe that the author was the first guy who made a million on the App Store.

Yeah dude, rail shooters are just
awesome. Screw proper handheld adaptations of the main console series like MGS: Portable Ops for PSP, or MGS: Ghost Babel for GBC.

Since I don't have a PSP, nor a GBC (nor do I ever intend to get one), yes, railshooter it is for me.

I'd post my 'high' scores, N'Al, but they're not even close! Incidentally, how do you find the whole shake-to-tilt thing? If I shake it whilst playing pinball I guarantee I've lost the ball before I work out what's happening again.
Well, what helped me getting my high-scores was plain old competition; during my recent skiing trip my mate and I were constantly trying to top each other at Pinball, so
a lot of games were played. I'm happy/ sad to say, I hold the highest scores on all 4 tables! :D
As for the tilting thing, a simple tap at the sides will normally suffice to get the ball back rolling again if need be, so you don't have to shake the whole phone around. As I said, preventing it from tilting when you
don't want it to I find to be the bigger problem (although I
have devised some sort of claw-like grip during my extensive periods of practice where that hardly ever happens anymore).
Oh, and I've purchased Edge as well now, great game! Thanks for the suggestion.

MGS Portable Ops for the PSP is not a very good game. Aside from being extremely difficult to control, it feels lifeless in comparison with its PS2 counterparts. I enjoyed the team management aspects at first, but once it became obvious that every level was nothing but a small complex composed of cubes of varying heights, and that every mission was nothing but "go from location A to location B", I began to tire, and once I hit the surprise Boss stage without enough weapons or ammo (and without any idea of how to fight him), I gave up.
It's a great tactical system ruined by obtuse controls and ultra-repetitive level design. Oh, and the trademark Ludicrous Metal Gear Plot + bizarre easter eggs aspect is largely absent, and sorely missed.

It's more fun because you can then it is actually fun doing. Being able to play quake with 10 frames a second gets tired very very fast. The Iphone is somewhat of a pos imho, fun as a gimmick nothing more.
