If I had to guess, I'd say it's because some of us don't think it's a fact. Your interpretation of the scar is that it's a continuity error. Mine is not. Since I clearly think it's open to interpretation, your statement that it's a fact that it's a continuity error isn't likely to sway me.
Since we can only know what the story and the cinematics tells us, we have to accept this is fact. If something is happening, but is not told, it is simply bad storytelling, if these events are drawn on later.
So we see the scene where Garetts eye is plucked. We see some time later a shot of his face where no scar exists. We see the second part of the game, also without a scar. I just checked the box of "Dark Project II" where the face is plain visible and there is no scar. So at the end of T2 we can assume that there is no scar either, because there was none in the beginning, and there was no event told that could cause a scar.
Going by that, we take a look at the box of TDS and, lo! and behold, the scar is suddenly there. What do we have to think of this? It's pretty simple. The designers choose to arbitrary put it there, for whatever reason, but no backup from the story. If it happened in an untold part of the story, then it is still bad design, because these parts were obviously cut and we never saw them. Thus it follows it is either a continuity error or crap design. Pick one.

Upon further reflection, I know exactly how the scar happened between Thief 2 and 3. Thief DS should have been better named to reflect this however.

I tried out the new Gillette Glyph Razor, but had a slight... accident. Now it's time to make the company pay. I'll sneak in after dark and sabotage the assembly line... as well as line my own pockets with a few notable trinkets along the way. I realize shaving accidents do happen, but somehow I didn't envision a giant scar across my face as being "The Best a Taffer Can Get." Time to get my point across.

I think the T3 Garrett looks cool - IF you have JohnP's hi-res textures installed. Expecially if you look at his face from certain angles and under certain lighting conditions. That glowing eye makes him damn creepy, even though it's not practical to have a glowing eye if you're trying to hide in the darkness. I like G. looking kinda creepy.
About the scar... I really don't care much.

That was the whole point. Not to make him look realistic or consistent but "kewl".

Objective 1: Steal 90% of the loot
Objective 2: Steal the foreman's ruby encrusted potato
Objective 3: Find the mechanical plans for the assembly line
Objective 4: Sabotage the assembly line
Objective 5: Exit the way you came

Am I the only one here who thinks the ISA crew maybe had more than one thought in their heads when they gave him that scar? I imagine their thinking went something like:
Quote:
Originally conjured up by Ion Storm Austin (well, maybe):Well, we gave Garrett this cool mechanical eye, but we'll have to give the Xbox crowd who'll never play the prequels, nor particularly care, an explanation, however vague, as to how he got it. It doesn't have to be accurate, anything that floats our boat here will do. And while we're at it, let's give him a cool, menacing look at the same time. Let's give him a big fat ugly slash straight across the eye. That'll be enough to show the kids something bad happened to his eye, and he got a mechanical replacement.
Now some of the old school fans may think of this as a continuity error, because there is no evidence of this scar in The Metal Age. Big deal. We're not giving him a cloak, either. Or rope arrows. Or colour vision in his mechanical eye. Or the ability to swim. What's a scar across his face? Most of the old fans are probably going to play this in first person mode, anyway.
Yeah, that about sums up my thoughts on ISA's thoughts.

hopper, you crack me up! :laff: I am in total agreement with your reasoning. A friend of mine played TDS on his XBox but was never tempted for a moment to borrow my TDP & TMA for his PC - said he didn't think Thief was that great of a game unless you were a pre-teen. I've been badgering him about it ever since. Resistance is futile.
Thank God we have very creative and innovative people here at TTLG who are trying their best to improve on TDS in their FMs. Gotta love 'em! :thumb:
