It could just be a scar from a mission, too. Being a thief, I'm sure Garrett gets swords swung at him all the time. Just one of those things that comes with being a thief.

5th mission in TDS and...well...it just isn't as much fun as i thought...those fish people piss me off so much!
It gets better. As much as I discredit TDS on this forum, as far as computer games go these days, TDS is among the best. It's just that when you judge it by the Thief standards it really sucks. Compared to what it realistically could have been, it's an unholy stench-emitting chunky pile of ...

Well, yeah, the T2 style feels so much better to use...
I think it's the mansion style that i love so much...

Then why is he no king? In the time where we haven't played Thief (between T2 and TDS) he might have conquered a new continent.
Somebody could have invented a time machine and Garrett could wear a cat suit now.
Fact is, all such things are based on bad design if the supposed happenings in between are not told, because the player can not know what happened between where the last installement left off and the new one starts. He either has to assume that the newest installment starts where he left off or there is some cutscene telling what was supposed to happen in the meantime.

Not even a simple conversation like, Perry the fence says, "heh, Garrett. Sorry to hear about the guard who gave you that ugly ass scar. You sure got him back though, didn't you? He he."

UGH!. .changing an aspect of a story or art just because it's "cool" can be one of the WORST things to do ever!
I totally agree. I always thought 'the Unwritten Times' would have been a better title for T3 anyway.

That was the whole point. Not to make him look realistic or consistent but "kewl".
Thief universe is not realistic to begin with. Neither mechanical eyes are. Neither pagan magic. In another thread I suggested it wouldn't be so bad to make a game, a realistic simulator of a medieval thief, without any flashbombs, zombies, elemental crystals and electric lanterns. But I like Thief because it's fantasy - so be it, I look for realism elsewhere. "Cool" is a great product, but still, TDS is unusual enough for not being a total shallow mainstream for every teenager.
What is the point of making an expensive professional game for a minor market segment? Every publisher wants to earn as much as possible. I blame the laws of the market economy, not the developers. It's not 1998 anymore, unfortunately. And whole gaming business isn't like it used to be in 1998.

The Thief universe is realistic. It's no eralistic based on our universe, but based on the Thief universe, it is. What I mean with this is, that it follows rules, which are valid within the given universe, and everything has to follow these rules. If you take, for example, the Lord Of The Ring universe and the hobbuits would start to dirve around in cars, it would be unrealistic because cars are not part of their universe. If somebody in the Doom universe would start to build a steampowered space vessel, it would also be unrealistic, because the Doom 3 universe doesn't support such technology. That doesn't mean that I consider the LOTR or Doom universe being realistic in relation to our universe.

This is all based in the Thief universe, and therefore it is realistic for the point of discussion of Thief style universes.
