I wouldn't be surprised if he has. His character says independance, and, he has never had a good friend, let alone a lover. (though, marla would take up that role in 2 seconds flat, ya know)

I don't know how you could tell whether he's had any good friends or not. That goes for the whole romance thing too. The games just don't deliver enough of the story to know. Basso is a friend. His sister might be a love interest. Personally, I think he got close to Victoria and that's why he didn't want to follow her plan - he didn't want anything to happen to her. He tells her "I work alone", because her plan involved her infiltrating the Mechanist Cathedral with him. The Keeper friend of his informed him of her assault and he was clearly distraught. He then went to try to save her. So, in the very least he no longer begrudged her over his eye, and he probably had some feelings for her - romantic I think.

Growing up on the street with no loving parents is sufficient reason to be emotionally immature.

Actually, you can grow up in a nice, warm home and be well fed and cared for and still turn out to be emotionally immature. In the end, I think it really has to do with who you are and how you process things around you.

I doubt he'd have the chutzpah to venture into Bonehoard or the Old Quarter, let alone Thieve at all, if he was emotionally immature. I think he guards his emotions to protect himself, but I don't think that speaks of immaturity at all. In his line of work he has to wear a poker face when dealing with the people he associates with. So, being leery and suspicious of everything kind of goes with the territory.
There's that cutscene when Victoria calls for him in Thief 1, where he listens to her through the door with his blade drawn. Now, he might of felt a little more relaxed when he heard her voice, but he didn't put the blade away.

I would think that...well...after the horrors he's seen (cradle, RTtC etc) and constant betrayals, he would have just grown more and more mistrusting, to a point of not trusting anyone at all. Really, could you stand going to an abandoned orphanage/mental asylum that is cursed and alive, with undead patients running around everywhere, and not be partially insane, changed or have a heart problem? But, he's a rebel and he work's alone. Basso was never really his friend, it was more of a favour thing. Basso did a favour for him, and he returned it.
Overall, I would say he is a slightly deranged rebel who's only concerned for one person in his life; himself. I don't think he'd let love get in the way of his money, and he wouldn't trust anyone. Viktoria, well, how old was Garrett then, about 20? Still young, still naive. I think thief has spread across about 10-15 years, because in TDS his character model looks about 35, but in the cutscenes he still looks like he around 15, so it's confusing. But, more to the point, Garrett trusted Viktoria and the pagans. That was, until they stole his eye. He probably lost all trust right there and then. Someone who he could have very well love, just totally betrayed him. This kind of event would be enough to really, really shatter you; permanently.
This post looks long while I type it, but, in reality, it's quite short.

If he was only concerned with himself then he wouldn't have gone after Victoria to save her from what he considered a suicide mission. Hey, he was right; it was a suicide mission.
He didn't know she was a Pagan before his eye was taken. How can he trust an entity that is disguised?

Back to the question of "Is Garrett Sexy"?
(It's pretty obvious he's seriously distrustful and probably gets any pleasures on a rental basis (if ya know what I mean) in areas unknown)
He's definitely always BROKE, outta money, down to his last rope arrow, so dude either has a serious gambling problem, spends way too much on those pleasures, or is heavily into other naughty habits.
Does this effect the judgment of you ladies (or lads?)?
Viners_an_Leafs on 6/4/2006 at 22:49
the Trickster was always my favorite character, I never really thought garret was attractive at all.
dlw6 on 6/4/2006 at 23:49
Some women find dangerous men attractive. It's an instinct to "mate with the strongest male and produce healthy offspring." The competing logical principle is "settle down with the reliable male." By observing the choices people make in life we learn whether they are ruled by reason or emotion.
I'll let one of the ladies describe the corresponding male instincts just to make it fair. :D
