I would like to buy the game Alice by Mcgee, but i need to know if it works in windows Xp and in a ati video card of 1Gb memory?
Do i need any patch?

Google says it will play on XP without any hitch, no special patches required. Personally I don't know, I don't have the game.

To the best of my knowledge, I never played it on any other OS than Windows XP.

id engines tend to age very well. Only very recently, a bug has surfaced pertaining to the OpenGL functions. Apparently they've added so many OGL extensions over the years to video cards, some of the older games (like Quake 2) freak out at the sight of them. There is a trivial workaround for this. In linux, we just launch the game with a command in front of it. Alice also works great in WINE too (at least the demo does).

I recently played and finished it on XP and it ran without a hitch, didn't crash even once the whole time IIRC.

I read that it is a driver bug that surfaced in version 10.5 of the Catalysts and has yet to be fixed as of 10.9. I'm using a HD 5770 with 10.9 Catalysts and I can't get Quake 2's OGL rendering to work
at all, not even with source ports like Kmquake2. I can play with software rendering but it looks really ugly, and it crashes if I dare go underwater.
Sucks because I love that game, was the first one I ever bought in my life.

There´s no doubt that ID engines are the most acessible and compatible
