Ah, Rune. I liked that. Maybe it wasn't a great platformer/brawler, but it did have a great sense of adventure. When you finally got back up to the surface after all the underground levels it really felt like an epic journey had been made.
This. It felt so different to anything else available at the time, too.
It was also one of the first games to prove the Unreal engine wasn't just for futuristic first-person shooters, along with WOT. So yeah, I 've got a soft spot for Rune.

Yeah Rune was fun, it's on my 'to-play-again-if-I-have-time' list, though not near the top. There wasn't much variety in environments (like the original Unreal had), mostly just underground dungeons, but still fun enough to play.

Plus, in multiplayer, there was the possibility of chopping someone's arm off and then beating them to death with it.

Rune was ok. I never played the whole thing and what I saw was a bit old school and platformy (seemingly only because that's just what you do in third person), but when it opened up into a full on biff fest it was kinda fun. Destructable weapons and so on were interesting.
It seemed really really quaint when Severance came out though. Hoo boy

I have never been able to finish Severance blade, its a very hard game with a complicated fight system, and even to control a character resulted many times in clumbsy movements, this is the only game where i gave it up, though i played again with cheats and enjoyed the scenarios (design) , the soundtrack and the storyline, but the gameplay was terrible for me :(

You can get the hang of it. I think some people get the impression you're supposed to focus on combos. They can be fun, but really only as a big finish move or something (and if you do it wrong you're often in more trouble than when you started).
Really you should play it as if you were in a real combat, slowly and carefully and not facing very many enemies at once if you can help it. Particularly at the beginning. I don't think I used any major combos until I was near the end, the first time through. Play conservative.
Character choice is also important. A lot of people seem to choose the Barbarian, because he's on the box and they want to be Conan or whatever. But he's probably the worst character and certainly the hardest to play well. The Knight and the Amazon are the best with the best defense and the best dodge respectively.
There's no denying it's very hard at times though.

The most difficult obstacles in this game are the bosses, i gave it up in a boss that looked to me almost invencible, he´s all red as i recall and when defeated he runs away with a dragon, i was playing with the barbarian as i thought it would be the easiest character to control, guess i was wrong, someday i´ll give another try to this game, but learning all combos and using them doesn´t seem to be something easy and appealing for me.
