I've tried trainers, looked for cheatcodes, I can't find anything. I had a trainer that promised unlimited life but it didn't do anything to the game at all...
Anybody any suggestions?

Why cheat? Take the time to learn how to play the game properly and you won't regret it. It sucks you in and the next thing you know, you're totally addicted.

I agree with Nightwalker. Don't spend time looking for cheats. Spend that time becoming a better Thief. You have to abandon all previous FPS knowledge about killing everything in sight. The fun in Thief (for most of us that is) is in the sneeking, not the killing. If you must take out a guard, do it quietly with your blackjack and then stash the body where it won't be found. There is a special thrill involved in sneeking through a heavily patroled area undetected or robbing a manor of everything not nailed down.
All that said it is fun on occasion to go nuts and play in a very unthiefy style and I'm not the "Thief Police" so far be it from me to say you have to play like me or anybody else. For this I recommed the Thief Save Editor. It alters a game save by giving you millions of what ever you happen to have in your inventory at the time. You just point the prorgam at the save you want to augment and you're there. I found the program on one of the discs Komag sent me. I don't know if it's avaliable for DL anywhere but I imagine it is. It's not perfect but it is a cool program. There's a read-me that comes with it that explains the few minor bugs present.
Now go forth and taff.

I had had such thought too. But not for the use of playing the game. I simply want to see what would happen when all the guards know I'm in the building. But unlimited life would surely ruin the gameplay when you want to complet the objectives rather than to make absurd fun.
I woud like to ask if there is a way to get unlimited equipment, especially in Thief1.

I agree that cheating ruins the fun
BUT I also think it is good for those who want to get their feet wet. Take me for example, I used to play Thief II with a trainer but now I don't because thanks to the trainer, I was able to understand more of what Thief is like and that made me the better gamer. Now, I can play it on the Expert mode
WITHOUT cheating.
So give the guy a break eh? :)
Well angel, there is a Thief II +3 trainer at (
www.cheatplanet.com)
As for TG/TDP, I have a save game editor that generates 16,000 of each item you have. If you want it, drop me an E-mail.

yeah. save game editor would do it.
but you can also alter the ini file to start off each mission with whatever you want.
check the FAQs out. it tells you how.

I don't like to chad people but I'll make an exception here because someone wants to cheat.
One must be a really bad gamer if you can't get through Thief. Thief is not aireal combat or any other head to head game. It's only a game of figuring out the route, the methods, and the patterns.
I have never played any version of Thief in normal or hard setting. I have only played in expert setting. I even always forget I even have an inventory or weapons to select from. I usually use only a blackjack unless it's absolutely necessary to use something else like a sword to take out a burrick or a water arrow to take out a fire elemental. I think Thief is a very easy game to do. What's attractive is the immersiveness of Thief.

Why in the hell would you want to do that. Unless you are teaching a 5 year old child to play and don't want them to lose interest. Ulimited anything defeats the whole idea.
You LIVE because YOU get more skillful. You DIE because you are:
A Stupid.
B Don't pay attention
C Impatient and or lazy.
