Just curious, because thief gold now shows up as Thief2.exe in task manager, is it no longer necessary to split fm's between Thief 1 and 2, can I just play the Thief 1 fm's in Thief 2 or vice versa?

Yes, you can theoretically. But you actually can't since T1/TG use different resources and data than T2.
