Okay Azaran normally I get tired of your boilerplate unnecessary politics-related posts but you just made up for it with that fucking video, hahahaha

I know I'm late to the party but
holy shit if it wasn't murder with a made-up story to try to cover it then the Dumbest Person of the Year award goes to the woman with the shotgun.

Also you're being pretty judgemental. Are you gonna tell me you've never done some stupid shit that might've gotten yourself or someone else killed?
I personally own a rifle, and the only time I ever load it with live ammo is if I'm about to use it. And even without being loaded, I don't point it at another person, let alone pull the trigger on them. Guns aren't toys, they're not something you play around with as a joke, and safeties don't always work. Aiming a loaded weapon at another person and pulling the trigger because you expect the safety will prevent it from firing is beyond 'stupid shit'.
Some people just shouldn't have guns.

Are we sure this wasn't suicide?

You'd hit it, ZB. You know you would. Don't lie.

A couple years back here in town we had an officer who got drunk at a party, spun the barrel of the revolver and pulled the trigger causing the weapon to "accidentally" discharge into his head.

My ex-supervisor's cousin was in the RUC (what the Northern Irish police were called back in the day) and demonstrated to a babysitter there was not reason to fear his un-loaded gun, by putting it to his temple and pulling the trigger, not realising that there was a round in the chamber.
Stupidity can be a split-second decision. Guns and bravado do not mix. As catbarf says - only way to avoid stupid accidents is to treat every gun like it is loaded with the safety off no matter what you think you know.

I gotta agree, sometimes a little detail or even an accident can have faetal consequences. Like my friend who broke his ankle and had his leg in a cast for over a month because... he took a step back "wrong" while standing still. Granted, not stupidity related, but just an example that sometimes shit happens no matter how smart you are, and it does feel "stupid" in retrospect.

Maybe I'm a little overzealous but the idea of treating a device capable of instantly ending a life so haphazardly just scares me. If someone doesn't treat that lethality with the respect it deserves, sooner or later something is bound to happen. If they're lucky it'll be a near-miss they can learn from, if not, well, we've seen the results.
