Cuz I do dorky things whenever I have so many other better things I could be doing. Like (
http://users.chartertn.net/greymatt/windows_3.jpg) install Windows 3.11 inside of Dosbox. I didn't think it was possible, but there it is. Running faster than I remember it, too.
As you can see, I even got Netscape Communicator 4 working. Well, sorta anyway. I can't get on the Information Superhighway to download high tech animated gifs yet, but I'm working on it.
Now I just need some Windows 3 games to run. Anyone got any recommendations?

Dare to Dream by - get this - CliffyB.
Also, Castle of the Winds. Oldskool turn based RPG with tile icons drawn by a 3 year old FTW. Spent weeks on that back in the day.

Dare to Dream was great from what I remember. I got it on one of those big 1001 Windows Games CDs they used to sell for Windows 3.11/95.
Pretty amazing that you were able to get Win 3.11 running in DOSBox. I didn't think that was possible.

Oh man, Castle of the Winds. I remember seeing that running on the shop class computers back in high school. (
http://users.chartertn.net/greymatt/win_3_cow.jpg) It hasn't age well at all.
Digi, I believe you're thinking of Kings Quest VII. I vaguely remember playing the demo off one of those PC Gamer CDs way back when, and seem to recall it being a Windows 3.1/95 deal only.
Was Bad Mojo for 3.1 or 95? Damn, I'll have to head home and go digging for old demo CDs now.

You know, I went into it expecting a fight, but it turned out to be the most simple, straightforward thing imaginable. Just set your CPU cycles to 25000, give it 16 meg of ram, set your window resolution to whatever you want and use Normal 3x, then just run setup.exe. Once it's done installing, run win.com and it pops right into it.
I haven't got networking to work yet (which I doubt I can, considering Dosbox probably doesn't have it emulated), nor sound (yet), but the rest runs fine. The only thing that's crashed it so far was setting my resolution to 800x600, 256 colors. It flaked out, and I had to reinstall it to get things working again.
edit: (
http://users.chartertn.net/greymatt/w3_lr.jpg) got Lode Runner working. Now for KQ7.

I have BadMojo on XP (not the redux, the original), so I am gonna guess it is 95/98, not 3.1x.

I think Darkseed 2 was a Windows 3 game. Although if it's as frustrating as the original (didn't get far in myself), maybe not quite what I'd call a recommendation.
Perhaps SimTower? A bit simplistic for Sim game but still fun.
[edit]I've had both running somewhat-satisfactorily in XP but I'm guessing you mean running stuff in win3 for the hell of it as opposed to win3-only.

Wasn't one of the The Incredible Machine games made for Win 3.1? The original Grand Prix Manager was pretty awesome. Also Monty Python's Complete Waste Of Time. I think those are pretty much the only games I remember running during that era that weren't DOS based.

Quest for Glory IV
also win 3.11 was awesome.

I did the same thing a few months ago, Renz, so don't feel bad; I'm a dork along with you. :)
Interestingly enough, the reason I did so was so I could play KQ7 without an annoying graphical glitch that occurred in XP under VMware. If you can get it working, let me know; I was unable to do so. I had to install 256 color graphics drivers, and all of the ones I tried either weren't detected by the game or crashed Windows forcing a reinstall.

TIM 3 was a Windows-compatible TIM 2. I don't know if it was Windows 3.1, but it's a good possibility.
I loved playing The Lost Mind of Dr. Brain and The Time Warp of Dr. Brain. They both ran on 3.1. Also, the Waycool and Waycool Too packs had some good stuff. Good luck finding them if you don't own them, though.
