I have been playing Thief since the beginning. The Dark Project. I have played T2, Deadly Shadows and well over 1000 Fan Made Missions and I am going to play T4...or Thief as they call it, and it will be Garrett. In one of the trailers he say's "Did You Miss me?" and I could swear it was Steven R....in all the trailers actually. I didn't even know he was replaced until about a week ago in the forums at Eidos. So unless they used him to narrate the trailers and pre-releases video and the "in game voice actor" sounds way different it will be fine. Stop being so picky and just enjoy the game. If anything ruins it for some of you it will be your own attitude and preconceived notion that it is going to stink. Give it a chance. I don't know what this crap about him not being a product of the Keepers?? That's just wrong but I'm willing to play the game and give it a chance before I slam it. In the Thief community there has been several members who have voice acted our beloved Garrett and it was good for me. So why not the new guy? We should be glad they did not scrap Garrett all together. Things change, deal with it. Please..;) How many of you played Dishonored??? Get my point?

No. :p
Oh man, I agree with a lot of things that you say, but I don't think that a lot of people share your opinion in these parts. I too don't think that the different voice actor ruins the game - of course Stephen Russell did a great job as Garrett and he'll be missed, but Garrett is so much more than just the voice. For me it's that "so much more" that really matters, and it remains to be seen whether they've managed to pull it off or not. The new guy sounds alright, but I'll really miss the other characters voiced by Russell though.
In a way I'm glad that I will still be able to play as Garrett, but perhaps it would have been better if they had scrapped him altogether, like you say. If they've changed everything about Garrett, it kinda makes me wonder why they've decided to have him as the protagonist - he's hardly the most recognisable character in gaming or anything. A different protagonist could have been a good idea. But if they've managed to retain some of Garrett's main characteristics, then who knows, it might not be such a bad thing. And since this is a reboot, this guy could just be another master thief who also happens to be called Garrett - quite a coincidence, eh? :p
I especially agree with this part though:

I hope that you'll enjoy the new Thief.

I think there's an evolution people have from initial optimism to working themselves into increasing pessimism or ambivalence over time, just by the back and forth of talking about it a lot--if you want an explanation for how the forum got to its current state (only my theory)--and the OP strikes me as the outer layer of the onion.
But keep it up & maybe you'll buck the trend & keep your optimism chugging along... Some people do. It's also helped that EM has cut some controversial features lately to respond to critics, so they're not totally tone deaf to criticism & are trying to improve the game, which is encouraging.

People don't hate new Garrett's voice actor, people love Stephen Russell.
Dishonored was not Thief and it wasn't pretending to be either.

For me, it was exactly the opposite. I didn't start from a place of optimism, since I had learned my lesson with Deadly Shadows. I had an extremely negative opinion of the reboot when it was first revealed and they caught even poor old cynical me by surprise with the QTEs and timed parkour races, the new edgy character design, detective vision, and headshot pop-ups. Then they actually managed to top even that off with things like rope arrow hotspots and contextual jumping. Now that they have at least taken out the QTEs and the xp progression, I actually have a less negative opinion of it than I did at the point of reveal.

And Adam West and Christian Bale are both Batman.

Good for you. You know what I bet won't happen? People won't tell you to "stop being so gullible, and don't play the game. If you like it, it's just because you have no taste or standards." Maybe you should return the favour.

So you're lecturing people about how they should feel about the game, but weren't even aware of that fact?

Let's be clear - I think the OP is silly.
But no one knows whether Garrett will turn out to have been trained by Keepers or not.
SlyFoxx on 19/1/2014 at 15:17
I'll wait for a cheap PC copy in a real box. If that doesn't happen then no T4 for me.
SubJeff on 19/1/2014 at 15:27
So you want to play it but your intense dislike of things like Steam would potentially stop you?
Springheel on 20/1/2014 at 18:45
What can be said is that if Garrett was trained by the Keepers, EM is going out of their way to keep that a secret.
