... and it's pretty clear to me which of the three endgames they will use for Deus Ex 2. ;)

If they chose either of the other two - then all it means is that you ultimatly FAILED. Either of the two other answers are dream-like and unreal ... presenting extremes and ultimate fantaties. In either, any future problems the world may face are so impossible, that any future conflict which you can make a game out of will only mean that something went wrong, and you didn't win in Dues Ex at all. The illuminati path, however, is very down to earth, much more realisitc, and presents a constent and continious struggle. That path does not represent the ultimate end in victory - but rather a whole new beginning, and a new set of challenges. That's the way I see it, anyway.

One other thing... kinda OT:

Spoiler:
This is also another reason why the story in Shock 2 irritated me. By bringing SHODAN back the way they did, it means that you ultimatly failed in Shock 1. I think that's wrong to do to the player. They could have found a more crafty way to bring SHODAN back, I think.... or not brought her back at all... but oh well.

Furthermore ...
Er, I probably shoulda done this all as one post. Bah, who cares? I spit in the eye of conformity! Take that! Digi spits in the eye of conformity, much like he previously declared. Not only that, but hell... I bloody own these damn forums, and the server they're sittin on, so who cares, right? HAha! I'll start my own conspiracy and rule TTLG! Wait ... uhm... what was I saying? Oh yeah ...

Spoiler:
I think it was wise of them to not include the choice to join with Bob Page, (or Pob Bage as I sometimes called him) as rumored or discussed or something like that. For one thing ... 3 choices were plenty enough ... for another ... the man's your arch enemy! There is no way in hell trusting him could have been any type of victory - unless you WANTED to loose... and then, just commit suicide! Ah well. But this brings me to my point ... which I actually just thought of two seconds after writing all of that - if they wanted to give you the choice to join Bob Page, then they should have let you stay in UNATCO and go postal on your traitor brother! But then they would have had to make two totally different games. Is that TOO MUCH to ask? Yes? Why are you shaking your heads at me and covering your faces? Oh, I am embarrassing you ... sorry... no-one ASKED YOU to view this text! I used spoiler code for mosses's sake...

Congrats on your success, Digital Nightfall. :)
(Is there a shorter mode of address you prefer, btw?).

Re: failure
I think the Illuminati ending might be the ultimate failure for the player. It is more believable, at first sight, but that just makes it insidious, IMO. I wouldn't trust that money-grubbing bugger Everett as far as I could spit him and seeing the world in his hands - the idea makes me shudder. "There's such a thing as a benevolent conspiracy." The heck there is.

Glad you finished the game. I sure you found all four endings fascinating. You did find all four, did you not?
Check the end of my walkthrough for Area 51 for details on all endings. :D

Awesome thing about Deus Ex is that I disagree with you! I found the ending I chose to be perfect for my personal values. Muaha! ;)
Which was your choice?
And as for the "4rth" ending ... Kickass! I try it as soon as I get home!

Oh yeah, you can call me Digi or Digit or Digital or Master Nightfall or even Dan if you'd like.

There is a good thread running about the endings, "Which ending is most morally correct?"

Spoiler:
I disagree about the other endings necessarily meaning failure for JC. Well, the Dark Ages ending was failure IMO but not Helios. The Helios ending seems to get a good start on solving a lot of the problems facing the world, so I would say that's a success. Plus you stay alive and Bob Page and his nefarious plans are sunk, so that's a success too. Success isn't forever though, things can always go wrong later. To me, the Illuminati ending is the most dramatic of failures, mainly because I believe that Morgan Everett = Bob Page. Did you get a chance to talk to Lucius DeBeers?
That said, I think Helios and Dark Age endings would not be workable for a sequel, for other reasons. Actually, I am not happy with the decision to "continue the adventures of JC Denton," because I feel his story is over. They should have done the next DX from a different character/ perspective, or even a different setting, like a prequel or something 50 or more years into the future. That's just my 2 credits' worth though; I am sure the plot, whatever it is, will be excellent.
