So I watched the last 30 Rock (not the latest one, the one before that is to be continued) and it spurred me to read/watch a bunch of stuff on the US election.
And I found this: (
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/us-election/9579165/Who-should-I-vote-for-in-the-US-election.html)
It says I match 85% for Obama (though I match 100% for Romney, lol. But that is an error on that page; if I go through it I disagree with him on almost all the statements).
We're all a little baffled at how it can be this close when one guy is so out there on so many topics. I'm enjoying the show though.

The popular vote is within a few percent, but the electoral college isn't going to be very close. Obama has all the states he needs to win pretty well locked up at this point.

I envy those outside the U.S. for having a clearer take on this thing. It's bad theater. The wait really does suck for us here. If the election was for some other country, I doubt I could enjoy the drama any better, though.

(

Nice! I love that it actually gives you green and libertarian options (I am apparently more green than dem), even though it's never ever going to be more than a two-horse race.

I'm voting for the black dude because he seems cooler than the other guy. Do I have to phone in?

That's really about the size of how it's seen over how here. Rich capitalist white guy versus Cool black guy who overthrew centuries of prejudice.

The only article on Obama you need to read. (
http://www.salon.com/2012/10/27/the_progressive_case_against_obama/)
It's absolutely brilliant. It destroys the idea that Obama is somehow more of a friend to the Middle class than Romney is (he vetoed help for the middle class that even BUSH, yes, fucking BUSH supported) and also addresses the usual arguments...namely that not voting Obama is just helping Romney.
And another column (linked in the first) about Obama's record on foreign policy and civil liberties:
(
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/09/why-i-refuse-to-vote-for-barack-obama/262861/)
Sad as it is to say, He may actually be less evil than Romney because Romney's rhetoric is so belligerent and nasty.
edit: In before the usual "You're just bashing Obama because you're a tool for Romney" snipes. The reality is that I feel no need because the arguments as to why ROmney is a turd are well documented, numorous, and well reasoned whereas the ones against Obama are largely ignored or sneered at. From the second link:
Quote:
To hell with them both.
Sometimes a policy is so reckless or immoral that supporting its backer as "the lesser of two evils" is unacceptable. If enough people start refusing to support any candidate who needlessly terrorizes innocents, perpetrates radical assaults on civil liberties, goes to war without Congress, or persecutes whistleblowers, among other misdeeds, post-9/11 excesses will be reined in.
If not?
So long as voters let the bipartisan consensus on these questions stand, we keep going farther down this road, America having been successfully provoked by Osama bin Laden into abandoning our values.
We tortured.
We started spying without warrants on our own citizens.
We detain indefinitely without trial or public presentation of evidence.
We continue drone strikes knowing they'll kill innocents, and without knowing that they'll make us safer.
Is anyone looking beyond 2012?
CCCToad on 4/11/2012 at 01:24
ON that ISideWith website:
TOok a look at a few different states. I think it is VERY telling about the current state of politics that when polled on issues, most of the states align with either Obama or Gary Johnson. Almost none line up with Romney. What they don't realize is that if you look at Obama's actions and not his rhetoric, he shares Romney's values.

I can't decide whether to vote for Darkseid or for Thanos.
