It's been a while... - by The Space Janitor

Wow, it has been a while since I've been here. I haven't been up with the Thief community for at least two years. The last couple years have been total chaos for me, and only now am I catching my breath. I was thinking today about Thief, so I had to check out TTLG again. Thank the Builder I remembered my login info :)
From my end, I'm going into my 2nd year at Canada's University of Waterloo, for Computer Science. It's a co-op (intern) program, and currently I'm working at Microsoft. I've also been contacted not too long ago by Josh Druckman, executive producer at Digital Extremes to join his new game development team.
I want to get involved in the Thief community again - get back into good ol dromEd :)
So what's new with you guys? If you're new, when did you join, and why? And what keeps you coming back to TTLG instead of relegating the Thief franchise to the past?
Cheers!

Same here. I'm happy to be coming back from my Thief hiatus.

hiatus for what, one month?
Kaiseto on 23/10/2006 at 04:30
He's 'likely' a returning member under a new account. Or so I would hope, considering September 2006 wouldn't exactly be long enough to be a "hiatus".

Yeah, I'm in a similar situation. I've been a fan of Thief since the beginning and was semi-active here for a while in 2000. Pretty much the period between slightly before the release of Thief 2 till slightly after the demise of LGS. Then I got side-tracked for all kinds of reasons and my account here expired due to a long lasting lack of activity.
I don't expect anybody to remember me (I'll be quite surprised if someone does, seeing how I wasn't active for very long), but I've always thought fondly of this place. Which, although not neccessarily n00b-friendly, was always kindhearted. Plus, it taught me ways to play Thief that elevated it in my mind from simply 'a very good game' to 'best game ever', so even if I wanted to, I could never truly forget about this place.
I recently started visiting again when I found out about the release of T2X. I haven't played T2X yet, but it did inspire me to replay the original two Thief games (TDS is still in pretty recent memory and not nearly as good IMO). And now, before I'll play T2X, I'm catching up on all the FMs I've missed (and there are definately plenty of those to keep me busy for a while).
This place really hasn't changed all that much. The only real differences are that there's more talk about TDS (which, although heavily speculated on, simply wasn't released yet before I left) and a lot less newbies (which, aside from the fact that you really can't 'inform' them about the Bow Upgrade hidden in the Alarus Extension, is a good thing).
TTLG is truly the epicenter of the Thief community and shows how dedicated fans can be. I applaud you for that.

I've found that as long as you don't try to tell people how to run the forum (or go after ZB) in your first post, there aren't really any difficulties getting started here...
