If I meant Alien Resurrection, I would have said that. Hell, I even mentioned Cameron by name previously. You'll also realize that I did say that Aliens isn't without its moments; however, half of the movie and its dialog I could really do without.
It's a joke. You like jokes, right?
As to the rest of your argument, I can only shake my head sadly.
The_Raven on 12/10/2008 at 22:48
Oh, dear; I've done it again. I guess I'm still finding it hard to distinguish the context of your posts without verbal inflection, Dethy.
Also, don't you mean nod your head in agreement?
I didn't mind Aliens originally. After buying and watching it a few times, however, the stupid shit in there started to grate on my nerves.

Not that I think Alien's bad or anything; while it's a great movie, it had even less characterisation than Aliens.
Yeah, but overacting and throwing stupid one-liners hardly count as good characterisation, that's the problem.
On the other hand, I gotta admit, the most memorable scene in Aliens for me was the sentry guns scene restored in the Special Edition. That was actually kinda clever, I liked it. I wish the whole movie could have been like that.
And I see I'm a minority here, but I kind of enjoyed Alien 4 despite its shortcomings. That movie reminded me of StarCraft with its tongue-in-cheek approach and all the dark humor and intentionally corny moments... oh, and it had Ron Perlman. Surely, you could do a lot worse than that.

Hahaha, Terminator 1 > Terminator 2. There's really no contest there. In fact, Terminator 2 is essentially left overs from the first movie that they didn't end up doing for one reason or another. Most of the movie is "kid tries to teach a cyborg to be cool." :weird:
Tsk. That's a very reductionary assessment of T2, innit? It kind of makes a movie seem like this:
The Empire Strikes Back (reductified):
A LONG TIME AGO, BLAH BLAH BLAH
EXT. HOTH SNOWFIELD
LUKE (after struggle with Wampa creature): Fuck, I nearly died. I need some mad Jedi skillz.
DEAD OBI MATERIALIZES: You will go to the Dagobah system.
LUKE: Okay.
Luke learns Mad Jedi Skillz and heads to Cloud City to confront Darth Vader.
INT. CARBON FREEZING CHAMBER
Light-saber fight. Bzzzt slash crackle snap.
BOTH MOVE TO INT. REACTOR SHAFT
INT. REACTOR SHAFT
Luke loses his right hand, and therefore, the fight. He jumps and snags himself on the end of the gantry.
LUKE (in pain): ohfuckithurts i've got only one arm to hang on with here.
DARTH VADER: Luke, I am your father!
LUKE: Right, you dickless biomechanical machine fetishist.
DARTH VADER: Search your feelings. You know it to be true.
LUKE: Is this really the best time to... oh fuck, I'm slipping. No! No! No!
Luke tumbles into an exhaust pipe and pops out the other end just as the Millennium Falcon swoops by.
LANDO: We'll save Han, princess.
R2D2: Brrppp pew-pew pew.
C3PO: Oh, my. Han and the princess did
what?
LUKE: Screw that noise, I need a new arm first.
EXT. STAR CRUISER
The cruiser turns and moves away into space.
DISSOLVE TO: SPACE
TO BE CONTINUED! PUM PA PAH PUM PUM!!!
Quote:
The one with the Alien spores and space communists?! You're joking, right?
Actually, you're right. It's been ~7 years since I last read the script, so I just skimmed through it again. I seem to have imagined all the interesting bits with the war on Earth. Weird.
The_Raven on 12/10/2008 at 23:41
Haha, you really nailed Empire Strikes Back there. :cheeky:
In order to make sure we're on the same wavelength here, the leftovers comment is more or less from James Cameron himself.
* He originally envisioned the Terminator to be constructed with a liquid metal, but he couldn't do the effects properly at the time of the original movie.
* He also originally envisioned that an assassin from the future should blend in as much as possible. The external appearance of the Terminator should be that of a very plain man, one people wouldn't give a second thought to if they passed it by on the street. Lance Hendriksen was originally considered for the role.
* One deleted scene from the original movie is two workers from the factory pulling the arm and the chip from the hydraulic press and then deciding to send them down to R&D. As Kyle Reese's body is loaded into the van, the camera pans up to reveal that the factory is owned by Cyberdyne Systems. Both John Connor and Skynet ended up creating themselves by sending their respective agents back in time.
Outside of this, the only other main parts of T2 is "No Fate," the completed transformation of Sarah Connor, and the T-101 being reprogrammed as a protector.

Aliens is principally a movie by James Cameron. Sure, there were novelizations and spin-offs; but I'm unsure why you wrote "read." :weird:
Oh, I was just going by the all-movies-are-based-on-books rule. And I guess I confused Alien with Alien
s. I still fail to see how it's anything like Starcraft, unless you mean that Installation infiltration missions.
Neb on 13/10/2008 at 08:10
As far as I know, it is technically correct to say that you read films.
EvaUnit02 on 13/10/2008 at 10:09
Both Alien and Aliens began their lives as original screenplays.

I'm fine with the episodic way as long as each episode brings useful new units and gameworlds in addition to a long and good campaign. Something like Brood War but with better new units.
But for now I dropped SC2 from "must have" to "wait and see how it turns out".
JohnnyTheWolf on 13/10/2008 at 15:22
Anywaaaay, back to the topic.
There's something I just found regarding SC1's linearity. Maybe it's old news for all of you, but I discovered something very interesting by extracting the third Terran mission with MPQ tools.
Apparently, you were actually given the choice of either survive 30 minutes against the Zergs... or simply destroy the Zerg's hatchery in order to get to the transports faster.
Now, why this optional objective was cut is beyond me. I mean, it actually doubled the mission's replayability.
