I've seen quite a lot of spells in SC2 can be "set to autocast" such as unburrow. Can you set spawn larva to autocast? As that would remove the tedium... I'm guessing you can't.
While larva are slightly tedious, you can at least create more supply just by pressing 1->s->v (if hatcheries are bound to 1) which is less tedious than making pylons/supply depots.

You can't set spawn larvae to autocast, that's the entire problem.
Personally, I think it should be a channelling spell. I'd to the battle.net forums and post my ideas, but since I can only post in the ignored European forums, I haven't been bothered yet.

Same amounts of campaign levels, different organisation, plus the promise of two expansions (SC1 only got one).
None of the expansions are out yet, the first is due in late 2011, IIRC.
Sweet, I didn't know there's even one expansion planned, let alone two! :D
I assume they'll be released after the last 2/3rds of SC2 are finally out?

Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah
Get back to me once you've actually played the game.

Yes. You can play any race in multiplayer, but currently there's only the Terran Single Player Campaign.
Thanks, and I wasn't being sarcastic. Like I said, I just wondered if what I heard way back when was true.

My bigger issue with the zerg is the spawn larvae mechanic, it's so tedious that I have no inclination to play zerg until they replace it with something better.
Oh, yeah, I completely forgot about that. That bugs the crap out of me too. That's one of the main reasons the feel of the zerg is so cumbersome. They used to be the more frantic, fast-paced race, but now it seems they are probably the race you have to be most cautious and strategic with. Nothing wrong with that necessarily, but it does feel weird.
As for the Terran, I guess Hellions can be useful, but I feel like it's more worthwhile (and a better use of resources) to get different units. They just seem to die on me way too quickly, even in large groups, to be cost-effective. Add in the fact they only hit ground units, and I would much rather get more marines with some upgrades and a few medivacs.
*edit*
OH, and another thing: maybe I just haven't figure it out, but can you not have the zerg larvae mass spawn as a single unit with one click anymore? That's another thing that really seems annoying, having to click on a unit to specify each larvae what to spawn as.

The larva thing was done because in Brood War Larvas were the so-called third resource. And especially in ZvZ it had a snowball effect where losing even one drone early on meant you have to spend the larva on the drone, not on combat units, which meant the enemy had more units than you, so he probably beat you and killed more drones, which put you even further behind.
But it's still silly there's no autocast for it. Let's not pretend SC2 is hardcore or anything

Hold the hotkey down to apply it to all your larvae.

The spawn larva mechanic, as well as the MULE/scan and protoss Chrono boosts were added because the game would have been too easy in the high levels without them. The game got way easier (as it should) with control groups having no maximum unit limit and all others such changes. If you guys have played Brood War recently, you'll find out that it's really tedious to play (well, unless you turtle and mass up army like n00b). That's also the reason it achieved such fame in Esports, it was actually hard to play on micro side of things.
SC2 is easier to play on micro, so they added those options. Once you play one race enough, you won't even think about it. I'm a zerg player and I just do the larva add automatically really.
Now for whining, protoss are imba vs Z. Otherwise all "ok". Zerg needs to get ovie speed research before lair, so we can actually scout instead of guess.

The problem is that the nexus and the orbital command can save up energy, meaning you can afford to miss three intervals and then just do 4 at once without penalty, whereas if you miss a single spawn larvae time, your economy is significantly set back.
Plus, chrono boost and orbital commands are strategic - you have to decide which building to chrono boost, or decide if you want to spend your orbital command energy on MULEs, calldown supplies or scans. Spawn larvae is not strategic, it is purely mechanic. There's nothing else the queen can choose to do to the hatchery instead, there's no choice. It's just a tedious mechanic you need to do every X seconds or you're at a serious disadvantage.
As for protoss being OP against zerg, as a protoss player, I often find zerg hardest to fight. Roaches are currently overpowered against protoss, so just spam mass roaches and win. Stalkers just can't cope with them, and immortals take too long to build in any numbers. The protoss player needs much better micro than you to defend against mass roach a-move.
