Yeah, but it would be SC versus the entire Warhammer 40K backstory rather than the piddlingly small amount of it that was in DoW.

I could never really get into StarCraft. I completed it, and the expansion, and enjoyed myself, but I don't find myself going back to it, same with WC and Diablo. The games Blizzard put out have always seemed well put together, but utterly soul-less.
When they try and inject a bith of life to the settings, to flesh thrm out, it comes across as tacked on and amateurish.
I think they need to sack Chris whatshisface (Metzen?) and hire a new Creative Director, someone with some actual talent, for example.

Yeah, I kind of thought that myself at first. If that is the best they can come up with from that much material, however, I'm still not to sure.
Maybe the Warhammer mythos just doesn't come across as well in a video game setting. I mean, Lord of the Rings is a great novel, but I have yet to play a LOTR themed video game which has held my attention for more than five minutes.

Games Workshop had some pretty strict limitations that they imposed on Relic for the first Dawn of War, storywise. They couldn't contradict anything in the existent story fluff, and they couldn't use any Space Marine, Chaos Marine, etc. characters or armies from the fluff either, since they might inadvertently contradict, or bollocks up some plans that GW had. Hence the creation of the Blood Ravens Space Marine chapter, and the crazy mixed Chaos army in vanilla DoW.
Since then they've been given a bit more freedom, which is why Winter Assault brought in the Ultramarines, and Dark Crusade has Gray Knights and a couple of additional units.
Expect DoW2's story to be quite a bit more epic.

Which was kind of my point, so ...?
Didn't know that Fafhrd, but it makes things clearer. Thanks.

It's interesting to contrast the reaction in this thread to the reaction in the Fallout 3 thread.

Hmm, I'm not impressed with the screenshots and gameplay vids, but for some reason I feel the urge to replay the original...

In the one case people are complaining about too little being done to the original Starcraft formula, while in the other case people are complaining about too much being done to the original Fallout formula. Apples and oranges of course, just sayin'.
