Ah. But Keillor just reads the poetry and some of it IS insightful and edgy. He wrote "Lake Woebegone Days" which... okay was palitable pap but a novel. My mistake. I thought it a dig at me because mine actually is and nothing stings like the truth. You um... may have noticed a bit of hyperbole in my last post as well as every post beyond that time immemorial. Expiationaladocious.

My assumption after reflecting on both your post and Tocky's is that both of are you trying to articulate a fundamental insufficiency in your assumptions of my assumptions in the hope of precipitating an assisted dissection [...]
When I try to write like that, I invariably only end up sounding like I checked a thesaurus for an alternative to every significant word in my sentences. Which generally isn't too far from the case, but it is nonetheless disappointing.

If you think I needed a thesaurus to use the word 'assumption' six times in a single paragraph, then I can't argue against a feeling of disappointment.

Nope, I doubt you checked one once when writing that. I meant, when
I try to write like that, I generally need to use a thesaurus at least once or twice, and it ends up looking like I used it more than that. My disappointment was directed at my own writing efforts, not your post. While I'd prefer to stay neutral in the actual argument in this thread, I must give kudos to your writing style; not quite as entertaining as Cyrano's "nose" speech, but still quite good. In short, my previous post was meant to be applause at your humor; that it was received as an insult is a tribute to my inability to communicate, which is one of the reasons I've become disenchanted with writing in the last couple of years.
