I hate NPPs! Is it so hard to cover 90% of Sahara with solar cells? There could be enough power to fuel the whole planet. All vehicles - electric. No oil, no pollution, no skyscrapers in Dubai. Simple as that.

This would have no impact on the local environment at all. It would also be really easy to set up and maintain. It will also be free. I can fly.

Actually, yes. It is pretty fucking hard.

A very small amount of Cesium was released, as well as Iodine. If you were sitting on top of the plants’ chimney when they were venting, you should probably give up smoking to return to your former life expectancy.
Well, at least they've still got a sense of humor.

Don't be so silly, where on earth would we get all the silicon we need to make that many solar cells?

Arguing it's "merely a transcription of the original Russian phonemes" is insubstantial, because that's how most of the names from foreign languages are translated to other languages. "Chernobyl" is the official english name, and you not using it makes you just look like you're trying too hard.
You're assuming things. Do you want me to start making some assumptions about you and your motivations?

Isn't Sahara a bigass sandy desert? Sand is essentially impure quartz which is silicon oxide.
But the extraction of silicon would require an insane amount of energy which brings us back full circle.

I posted this earlier but then deleted it... now I'm posting again...
Does anyone know of any reliable ways to donate money directly to the relief efforts in Japan? I'm always leery of donating to large charities in general as there is no way to know how the money gets used. Any help here is appreciated.
