I know it's a boring suggestion, but surely the second person will be some sort of multidisciplinary artist?

Warren Spector had some really great keynotes and interviews back in the IonStorm era, he was always great in game (design) theory. In terms of actual games, not so much, unfortunately.

(not surprised that Eva's favorite band is TOOL).
Heh, I haven't listened to Tool in like 10 years. Nice try, but thanks for playing. (My favourite band is QotSA, if you must know.)

He's the Ridley Scott of games. A legend in the biz, influential and subject of much geek worship, but his record is pretty mixed if we're at all honest.

As good as Tool is, A Perfect Circle is far superior. Same lead singer, far greater percentage of great songs.

But they all sound the same. At least Tool is really varied.
icemann on 5/7/2013 at 17:18
If varied is what you like, try Porcupine Tree. Started off (early 90s) as electronic, then later went a more metal-ish / heavy direction, then changed to progressive rock. My favorite band these days.

Never heard of them, but I'll give them a shot. I'm stuck in a musical rut, listening to my same old stuff over and over. Time for some new tunes.
june gloom on 5/7/2013 at 17:57
Porcupine Tree is unique in that they've gone three different directions in an attempt to find the one that was the most boring. They succeeded. The thing is, their preferred direction is Opeth Lite, and since Opeth themselves have become Opeth Lite, what's that made Porcupine Tree? Opeth Zero?
Give Neurosis a try if you're looking for something new. They've been around for years. I recommend "A Sun that Never Sets" to start with.
Though I must say, Rosetta are replacing Isis as my favourite post-metal band, if only because they're still around and just as good.

We really need a "jerking off about shitty music" thread that <strike>all of dethtoll's posts</strike> these side discussions can get moved to.
