And yet the reason you never volunteer anything is because you know your own taste is awful.

The reason I never volunteer anything is the same reason I don't take black/gay friends to KKK rallies.

krautrock is a stupid name for a genre
Jason Moyer on 5/7/2013 at 20:46
Dunno who is going to argue with you there.
Edit: Also, it's not a genre. It's just English people being bigots.

Porcupine Tree is unique in that they've gone three different directions in an attempt to find the one that was the most boring. They succeeded. The thing is, their preferred direction is Opeth Lite, and since Opeth themselves have become Opeth Lite, what's that made Porcupine Tree? Opeth Zero?
I wouldn't call any of their music "boring" but their last album was average. Their high point for me was from the albums Signify (1996) - Fear of a Blank Planet (2007). So many damn awesome tracks.
Though if your more heavy inclined then check out "In Absentia" as that was about as heavy as they ever went. Very Tool-like album especially with the song "Gravity Eyelids". I'd highly recommend checking out all their albums however on spotify or whatever. I only discovered the band 5 years ago via a music service similar to spotify (called yahoo music) where it plays random music based on how you rate each song played etc. And Gravity Eyelids was the initial track I listened to from Porcupine Tree. Been my favorite band ever since.
Of note the lead singer has done 2 solo albums (which go more in a metal-ish / alternative direction) as well as being lead for another band "Blackfield" whose music is more progressive rock and melodic style stuff. So you have a wealth of choice musically with whatever you go with.

Never heard of them, but I'll give them a shot. I'm stuck in a musical rut, listening to my same old stuff over and over. Time for some new tunes.
Been there and then some. Hence why I originally started listening to Yahoo music and much later Spotify. Spotify nowadays is the BEST thing for when you hit that point where your sick of all the music on your computer and NEED some new stuff, but which is not half the newer crap that's on the radio these days but rather more similar to whatever it is style of music that your into.
It gives me plenty of that so I'm happy. The ads start to drive you bonkers after a while however. The only MAJOR downside.

Oh lay off. The dude likes Tangerine Dream and looks like Jeff Bridges. He's been punished enough.

He looks like The Dude?
That's no handicap, bro!
