I don't have a key setup that I always use, it all depends on the game. It even depends on the game if I use normal or inverted mouse y axis.

Those FPSes that don't have secondary fire or iron sights feel downright archaic (and more arcadey) to me. There's something about looking down the barrel of my virtual gun that makes me feel a) more dangerous and b) more immersed... and c) more prone to missing enemies approaching from the left or the right who then proceed to shoot me in the head. Bastards.
Same here. I often turn off crosshairs too if the game allows it (like Crysis). I also think it feels archaic (and arcadey) when you can't lean left/right in an FPS.

This thread reminds me of five years ago when I actually gave a shit.
(And yeah, it used to always be space for jump, ctrl for crouch, shift for walk, and rmb for use key unless I absolutely couldn't avoid it - in which case it was f ... it's hard to look back and believe I was so anal about it, actually.)

Wow, we really are a lot more varied than I'd expected.

How are you supposed to walk and crouch?
I generally use the Walk/Run toggles, usually assigned to Caps Lock. Tab is also an option for either a toggle or just a walk modifier, if I have nothing better on it. And I usually don't. I keep RMB for either Zoom or Alt-Fire or Use, depending on what I'm playing. I'm pretty much like Thirith with this, I don't like having movement functions on the mouse.

WASD= movement
L Shift=Sprint
C=Toggle Crouch
Space=Jump
R=Reload
Q/E=Leaning
if no lean avail, then E=Use
F=Light or use if lean is on
Tab =Melee/Map or somesuch.
Z=for the odd zoom when alt fire is mapped on mouse
X=prone
I have a 5 button mouse.
I use LMB for Fire
RMB for Zoom/Iron Sights/Alt Fire
Middle mouse click cometimes get mapped to a Use feature.
MM Scroll for weapons/inventory
MB 4/5 for Bullet time, Shoot dodge, or change ammo type, fire mode.

I'm finding all these unique and personalized setups quite interesting; I've always been fascinated by people's personal preferences when they change certain keys like jump and run etc. Someone I know used to play FPS' with rightclick as run forward :weird: I myself don't tend to change up most default layouts.

yeah man fuck all that clicking the mouse to shoot things, that's laziness, that shit should be automatic
I want a game where I hit the start button, watch an animated clip...then I win.

I love MGS series, but 4 is pretty close to what you want ;P

They should just re-release MGS4 as a movie.
Anyway.
My usual setup is standard WASD, space for jump, C for crouch, right shift for running (or walking, as the case may be.) R is and always will be reload.
If leaning is in, then Q and E perform that function.
Normally "use" is the right mouse button. If the game I'm playing has alt-fire, ironsights, or both, on its weapons, then "use" is usually F, E or even G, depending on if there's leaning and/or a flashlight.

These days, I play my games with whatever layout they come with. Much bloody easier.
That said, to answer Koki's original post, the space bar = jump thing is a holdover from the good old days of PC gaming. Everything from platformers to FPSes used the space key to jump.
Also, MGS4 rocks. I'm still playing it, and well aware of the movie:game ratio, but don't particularly care either way: the long-windedness has always been one of MGS's flaws. It may be taken to extremes here (I've heard the epilogue is seriously long and seriously boring), but with the amount of things that need closure, I'm not surprised.
I've come to appreciate that you can't always have the good (and fuck, when it's good this game is awesome) without some of the bad (boy these people can get friggin' verbose), and no series has expressed that dichotomy more than MGS. It's never perfect.
That's one of the reasons why I love it.

I usually bind LMB to jump (although I also use Space for jump). I played System Shock so many times that I now can't play any game without using the RMB for shooting.
