Perhaps it's worth to forbid the T3 vs. T1/2 type of threads in the rules of these forums.
Noone will agree with different point of view anyway. For each new argument will be a few others, and on and on. I just wish that sparhawk and other TDM team managed to do a better product and implement about the same features but better.
I think guys who work on TDM definitely should play TDS more, slowly and attentive this time, not just for fun, but specifically to notice and remember what new features done and how in TDS, to guarantee TDM will do better.

Many of us have, and likely know the systems inside out. I know that I dream about the editors for T1,2 and 3.
Our primary inspiration for Dark Mod has always been T1 and 2, which should be evident from our screen shots. We are building on that template and letting it evolve from there. I think that TDM will have very little in common with TDS.

That's an excellent point. Negative examples can be just as valuable as positive ones.

I meant separate TDS features, not the whole game feel, and things like small map size, lack of swimmable water, rope arrows, etc.
It would be fine if TDM featured oil flasks, arrow combos, face animations, more sophisticated lockpicking system, AIs that suddenly can change their patrol routes and recognize environment around them, and some other TDS features I mentioned - i.e. all the things that were really good in TDS. Plus some newer toys I'm sure you have in mind like maybe noise suppressor, and additional type of arrows. That would be ideal, so that people who liked all the good things in TDS wouldn't feel that they are missing something, and woudn't count TDM as worse product.
However I understand it's hardly possible to implement that all, it probably requires too many man-hours and compensation.

It'll be highly probable once the toolkit is out :thumb:

If you do some digging around on our Dark Mod public forums, you will likely find that we are implimenting a lot of these things. Partial systems are in place for certain AI functions, although I'm not going to get into which ones...that's classified. :) You're not going to find oil flasks or 'chokity choke' moss arrows, in The Dark Mod toolset. Too cheesey.
Patrol routes could be made random in Thief 2, not sure about Thief 1, and arrow combos wouldn't be hard to do in the original games either. It would likely just require some scripts. Doom 3 has rich scripting functions, so you can expect to have your way with it once it's released.
As I said in the prior post though, we're looking to T1 and 2 for our foundation, but will be moving forward from that.

I liked how the moss arrows affected people. :(
But again I suspect I'm in the minority.

You seem to have the missconception that TDM should be a perfected copy of TDS. It isn't. Of course it is inspired by Thief, but we implement enough new things or different things, because we dont want to be "just" a copy of Thief. Playing the original series helps though to look at certain things and see how it was done, but that doesn't mean that we are obliged to do the same. However, I like to replay T1/T2 every now and then, but I have zero motivation to do the same with TDS. Maybe this will change if a few good FMs will come.
