So I downloaded Thief: Gold, since I have never played the new missions and wanted some Thief nostalgia in my life.
Downloaded from the Eidos website, paid my $19.99, installed, no problems. Cutscenes don't run, I anticipated this, I looked at the FAQ and tried the two alternative solutions to paying for the Codec. The first one (creating a .bat file) did not work. Tried the second one, running the LGVID.AX file, now Thief crashes when a cutscene arises and I can't play at all.
Really bummed and confused... Is there any hope? I'm on Windows XP. Sorry if it's the wrong forum.

It says it's for Thief 2, will it work on Thief:Gold?

This is a bit strange since I had no problem with the download version of Thief Gold and XP pro, SP3. Maybe there exist slightly different versions.
I had trouble getting Thief 2 to run, though, and only had success after I tried this part of the FAQ:
Have you tried that? It worked for me.

Tried it, getting an error message about a "prepatched .exe"

I will try that, thanks. Strange that it worked for you, I got mine from the Eidos website.
Just really hoping I didn't flush 20 bucks down the hole.

Awesome, I downloaded those codecs and the cutscenes seem to be working great now. Thanks so much for the help.

Great that it works now. The thanks belong of course to the people behind the FAQ, I would have been lost without them. :) Have fun playing!
