Then why you complain about writing, characters, revealing of information and explicitness is beyond me.
Because all these are miles better in final fantasy than in parasite eve? It is exactly because PE is squaresoft that I expected more. I am not claiming FFs are pinnacle of storytelling and character development, but compared to PE, they are.
Take as an example FF7:
Sure it was obvious Cloud was special, but I honestly didn't suspect his whole past was fake, that was a well pulled off an unexpected plot twistOr FF6:
Terra being an esper? That, too, wasn't the mos obvious revelationCompared to PE where
you are hinted to be connected with eve in the first 10 minutesAlso, the FFs didn't make you search for 5 random pixels on the screen to move forward (secrets are a whole different story), didn't repeat the same sentence three times in a row and the characters weren't utterly retarded and actually had character development deeper than
the little boy's mother died and Daniel is now the only parent he has but oh no, his life as a cop prevents him from being a good parent until the boy gets in trouble and he runs head first to save him OH GOD THE DRAMA!And none of the FFs made you lose and re-do the past 6 bosses because you took the wrong turn...

Oh? This is interesting.
Parasite Eve (both games) have their issues. No game is perfect, and PE1 has a lot wrong with it. That said I still enjoy the games far beyond most others that are universally better.
From the OP's ranting it seems like he's not a fan of the survival horror genre, because many of the things he complains about are present in every single survival-horror game ever made, from Resident Evil 1 to Silent Hill 5.
Sorry to disappoint you dethtoll, but I'm not terribly upset that someone doesn't like PE1. The game is deeply flawed. There aren't too many people who like PE2, which is a hundred times better, much less the first game.
What does make me upset is that what the OP had issues with, are not solely limited to Parasite Eve, and if the OP considers any other survival horror to be an enjoyable game, I will throw an apoplectic fit, because half of what he ranted about is present in every goddamn survival horror game ever made. I'll admit that most survival horror bosses are an absolute joke and PE has a history of difficult (and often frustrating) boss fights (not to mention those fucking invisible GOLEM soldiers in PE2, fuck them, seriously). But shitting all over PE due to survival-horror genre archetypes just makes me want to punch him in the cock. Especially if the OP considers other survival horror games to be good games.
It's too bad the first game put such a bad taste in your mouth; the second game is vastly superior in almost every way except music, although they really dumbed down the equipment customization.
Fake edit: By the way the Ultimate Being is, like every Square final boss, a fucking joke once you find out its weakness. The Chrysler Building endboss in the EX Game is much harder. (But PE2's final boss is a much more fun fight.)

Liked the silly upgrade system ("i think ill mod this super accurate pistol to use buckshot ammo so it can hit 5 enemies simultaneous at about 12 miles away. And upgrade the clip to hold 3000 rounds aswell") and that you could choose where to go. I cant remember the endboss (It was on a tanker/battleship and it morphed alot and after you beat it it became kinda crippled and you had to run from it or something like that?) being much of a pain, i think i found it kinda neat at the time.
In terms of storytelling it was certainly better than PE2, you had short intermissions, non-action locales like the police station and museum which saved the game from that disjointed "hop from place to place where you got to shoot stuff. Consult your nearest solitary dead/soon-dead person of minor importance, note, inner monologue, boss monster (not necessarily talking), radio chat or only other person which is here for strange/bold reasons for storyline advance" feeling i got from PE2. Works in Resident Evil, in that game not so much.
On the other hand PE2 looked better and had lots of funky fun gunz :o
Yes im not exactly busy right now :p

I also don't recall "mega impossible" bosses everywhere in SIlent Hill.

PE2 was better in almost every way; RPG and survival-horror don't really mix too well, honestly, and PE2 kept nothing more than token RPG mechanics.
I did miss PE1's insanely flexible (and often silly, as you stated) equipment modification system, though. PE2 just didn't have the same huge variety of weapons and equipment, but what it had was almost universally useful. Very few guns in PE2 were pointless--though I'll admit I used Kyle's 9mm SIG more than any other gun due to its insanely high critical hit rate, at least until the GOLEM soldiers showed up and I was forced to switch back to the M4 carbine + stun gun combo.

No, most survival horror games have bosses that are incredible pushovers. Parasite Eve (both games) have bosses more akin to Vagrant Story (difficult, often frustratingly so).
