I know about Alone in the Dark but not many do. ^^
Been under a rock the majority of your gaming life?

What are you implying? That she, despite what she said, does not know of AitD, or that her saying that not many people know of AitD (or, perhaps more specifically, know that it predates RE by at least 3 or 4 years- many people know the series EXISTS but don't realize how old it is) is wrong?
In both cases, you are quite incorrect.

What
does make me upset is that what the OP had issues with, are not solely limited to Parasite Eve, and if the OP considers any other survival horror to be an enjoyable game, I will throw an apoplectic fit, because half of what he ranted about is present in
every goddamn survival horror game ever made.
Whoa there cowboy, I never mentioned anything about survival horror games. I do admit I do not really like this genre (the only game from it that I liked thus far is Silent Hill 3), but... I would not call PE a survival horror game.
Sure, it TRIES to be a survival horror game with the whole "creepy music and camera angles" stuff, but the gameplay is completly inadequate. Without monsters chasing you around and instead being retained to comfortable battle sequences, any "horror" aspect is really gone. And the "survival" portion... well, if PE is survival then so is every other damn game that has the concept of limited resources. And, tbh, aside from the over-the-top final boss(es), the battle was actually fairly easy and hardly made me scramble for resources.
The only true survival horror aspect was the end when you need to run away from the blob, but they managed to fuck that up with the uttrly unfair and frustrating "hey if you make a wrong turn or try to save you DIE, gg, redo the last 6 bosses" aspect which wasn't nearly as bad in other survival horror games I've tried.
Perhaps that's why PE fails so bad, it takes some of the survival horror archetypes and applies them to a whole different genre, thus creating an incompatible mish-mash? Nah, even that sounds more appealing than what PE really is... And, as I said in the above paragraph, even actual survival horror games aren't neaaarly as bad as PE.

Okay, I'm out of ammo here. =P
PE1 really is deeply flawed. I tried to keep up a stern fangirl facade, but I just can't do it. The game has too many problems that are evident even to someone who adores the series.
It wasn't until Parasite Eve 2 that I really got into it, anyway.
And what I meant about Alone in the Dark; it is not a game that most modern gamers know about, but then again neither is Privateer, or Ultima, or Wizardry, or countless other legacy titles that came to be long before PC gaming was mainstream.

This is why I tried to stay away from explicitly stating that Alone in the Dark was the first survival horror game. The problem is that I ended up inadvertently suggesting it.

Who says you have to? If you like the game, then you like the game, everyone else who doesn't can suck "it"("it" can include the game mechanics, their stubborness to keep playing something they don't like, and other various things). I only got PE1 just under 2 years ago. Yes the game has problems, but I love it. The atmosphere is unbeatable imo, which is probably why the guy, through all his complaints, felt the need to play it through to the end.
I haven't played PE2, mostly cause I still can't find it, but the comparison sounds pointless from what i've heard. I don't even think PE2 is considered an RPG, while PE1 is. And comparing the two is like comparing DX2 to DX (but backwards). DX2 being a good game, DX being a great game, but everyone said DX2 sucked because it wasnt DX1.
And PE1 isn't a survival horror. It's an RPG/Psychological Thriller, nothing really scary about it, but still fun to watch.
And if your trying to beat the game with a pistol first time through, your an idiot. Use a rifle.
And now I'm rambling...so yeah.
PS. Warning: I didn't take the time to read all of the posts, I read the first through and the last few(as in the first 5 or so posts and the two above mine), so if anything was repeated, sorry.

I loved PE1 and 2. ;__; I absolutely adored PE1, especially the story and artwork and music. It all just blended together to create a gameplay atmosphere I just adored.
Also you can save after Eve before the Child, and I believe after the T-Rex before Eve as well. Also the stages of the Child are all in-battle and don't make him much harder. It took me three or so tries my first time through the game to beat him, but I think that's pretty fair for the last boss, honestly.
Now the Chrysler Building, that was some frustratingly hard shit. I couldn't get past floor 80's boss (which I believe was an upgraded version of the GIANT ENEMY CRAB optional boss from the normal game you fought to get the rocket launcher). Still to this day have never beat it. D:

Jesus, (

Being a twitch shooter, it had better support Sony Bend's alternative control scheme introduced in Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror - where the face buttons are used for movement and the thumb stick for looking. It's the only feasible work-around for the PSP's lack of a 2nd analogue stick.
