A victim of the (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_Valley) uncanny valley perhaps?
Fortunately DarkMod
a) is as yet a work in progress.
and
b) always will be a work in progress (by which I don't mean to suggest it is vapour ware)

Very short @Flux to keep the offtopic content minimal: I've tried it today and it works brilliant. In the Remake of the Keeper Assassins they meddled with new archetypes but I'm not sure what happened in detail since I wasn't able to re-create the bigger changes.

I'm glad it worked for you:)
Also I don't think we are off-topic, the thread starter made some observations about tds in general and ai in particular and we are talking about how to improve it:p
Tds had the best ai in series, hardly mentioned. (difficulty resetting bug was a programming error rather than ai design.) Though you can make ai super-sonic, that makes the game less fun, don't you think? I vaguely remember a programmer's comment years ago on tds ai while they were working on it. He said something like "It's more difficult to make ai sometimes dumb than making it intelligent all the time."
If they had made the ai more intelligent on tds, the console crowd would have dropped their joy-pad in the tutorial mission, never to pick it again. I guess "dumbing down" is also related with ai being less challenging apart from hardware limitations.

At least raising its niveau to the level of TDP/TMA should be justified. When I'm almost done with my little quarter intersection I'll have a look at tuning the AI and other stuff (Garrett's movement, the gist of the matter, since there must be more behind the MP than the T3PlayersAnim.ini). Their stamina is also point of the agenda.
By the way, why do some people say TDS looked comic-like? I agree that there is something artistic to it, but before coming here I rather compared it to paintings than comics. Sounds much more sophisticated. :p

Sorry to say, but your textures don't look real, they look sterile, plastic and lifeless.
That's your opinion. :) Sure, they're not all perfect...they don't all reach the heights of greatness...but you know...there are only so many folks working on the mod, and they're holding down jobs...raising families...you name it. We're going through our textures and cleaning up/ replacing where we can as time and resources permit. It would be nice if people could do a little better than 'wish' we had better textures and perhaps help us clean up our existing textures or make new ones. Thanks though.

Ditto. I've seen TDS compared to Rembrandt ffs.

Well that's just the thing...the textures look great, but painted. I wouldn't go so far as to compare them to Rembrandt :), but there's really nothing wrong with them technically. As a stand alone game, they would have worked wonderfully, but they didn't match the artistic mood of the previous games in the series. They gave TDS a stylized rather than real world appearance. Again, nothing wrong with that, if the series had not previously had such a different style.

Oh, stop being so conservative ...
Change happens. It would be boring otherwise, trust me. And anyway, thief has always had a stylized feel to it. It wasn't that big a change.

Actually, I coulda done without the curlicues all over the place. If they had been kept to one faction, instead of making The City look like everyone was a dedicated follower of that fashion, it wouldn't have added to the homogenised feel of it all. Change is good, but the games should contain awareness of it and rebellion against it to make it believable.
Chade on 5/4/2008 at 02:15
Ah well, what can I say? I'm just not all that picky about everything matching up perfectly from one game to another ...
