I retired a couple of years ago.
;)
Why, back in the days I'd talk up something fierce in defense of T3, in light of the overwhelming negativity of certain doomsday prophets here. Ye, I'm talking 'bout chu! You know who you are! :p

Ah! A belated congratulations, then!
A retired warrior! Back in that day, I didn't have a copy of TDS, nor could I play a friends! All I had were the screenshots, the videos, and all the threads with the majority complaining, and the minority complaining about the complainers. It's always been scary to see a newbie walk into ThiefGen and post their praise. It's only a matter of time before..... :(

I appreciate your support, Beleg. I'm hoping I can count on those in your position who are most familiar with TDS on a technical side than I am right now.
Oh, I'm just a translator, but the way you agreed to my latest posts was almost frightening. I guess I have to make some trouble again for conscience's sake. :p

It's not that jtr7 primarily doesn't like TDS and wants everybody to know, but he is interested in knowing the details of every game instead of jumping to conclusions based on superficial impressions. TDS had some flaws and the guys who notice things like that will always be after them and complain. However, it is somehow at least useful to know about these flaws.
I liked TDS and I'll gladly offer you my hand in our struggle against...no...wait. :weird: Anyway, as long as I see any anchorless arguments against TDS I feel the need to intervene, but otherwise the discussion is – as I said somewhere else – a too unforgiving one. I'd rather play it again.
If his posts were somewhat intelligent, it would be fun to atleast debate on those, but no such case. I mean his *complain* was like "I cant see whats beneath my feet coz all I see is Gerrett's feet, its so immersion breaker!!!" Yeah, as if floating camera in previous games was totally immersive. It felt totally silly especially riding elevators. Thus, I find many TDS haters stand hypocritical and biased. I know there are complains and flaws in TDS but some people are *inventing* things to complain about when there were totally OKAY with same problems in previous games. Thanks anyways for suggesting your help in struggle against *them*, but I know for sure he wont reply to any single valid argument and instead would post something more idiotic and pointless things.

Don't worry, some of the crap I say comes from finding so much absurdity in life
That explains a lot!

Why do you lie? It wasn’t like that. There were definitely threads about people liking TDS and in 'complaints' thread, there were people arguing *against* those complaints [not against complainers]. Some didnt like it as much as previous games, but that doesn’t mean they hated TDS. Also, did you visit EIDOS and ION Storm Forums? You would have seen different things there.

I don't hate TDS, but I feel a sick compulsion to trout-slap those who say I do, because they aren't paying attention.
Its blissful being such self-ignorant? If you think all your posts regarding TDS should have indicated that you actually like TDS, then, you have to improve your writing skills instead of blaming others for "not paying attention". Anyways, you seem to be editing each n every of your post, so may be you are already doing some progress...
And oh, I too have a compulsion about trout-slapping hypocrites, so I see we will have more encounters...:thumb:

jtr's always tried to be balanced in his opinions about TDS. I've seen positive things from him also - when he was defending it against what you call 'haters'. I guess I'm in jtr's position too - I know and dislike the flaws but I also enjoy the game (and I believe there are several positive aspects).
Take a step back and look at your own posts - they seem quick to anger, asking sarcastic questions and generally coming off as an attack on jtr. Are you a jtr-hater, perchance?

Are you his lawyer, perchance? I dont know his history, but from the recent posts that I read of him, I read very silly things like "cant turn my head 5 degrees more, cant see whats below my feet" and stuff like that. I know people have complains about level size, colour palette, animation, physics, look of characters etc. which are valid and debatable complaints. But when someone bashes TDS on totally ridiculous things, I cant help but to use the tone that I have been using with him. If you think its not upto your liking, may be you should stop reading my posts further.

I also like TDS.
It had it´s flaws and we all know them to death...
Engine limitations, bad design choices, bla bla bla bla...
But past these things it was very enjoyable.
The Cradle was excellent, on par with the best classic missions like Return to the Cathedral and Life of the Party.
It´s not a case of defending the game to death. It has flaws but you can get past it and have a good experience that´s all.
So yeah, I really like TDS. No shame about that.

Agreed!

Had to revive this thread because I just recently played through TDS again. And I have to say - I really enjoyed it. I hadn't even touched it since the game was first released almost four years ago, and my impression of the game now is much better than it was then. So, if you haven't played it for a while, I suggest giving it another shot.
Now, before the hating starts, let me be clear in saying it in no way compares with the original Thief titles. Make no mistake.
IMO, the small level sizes and the sometimes overly simplistic paths to victory really killed this game. There are other negatives that have been mentioned on the forums ad nauseum, but to me this is far and away the biggest fault.
However, the story (incl. readables), atmosphere, settings, and sounds/music really shine, and make this game worthy of being called Thief. Also, even with the smaller levels, I thought the overall playing time was quite long. Probably took me between 20-30 hours over a two week period. Not bad these days.
Overall, I was actually impressed, so much more so than when I played through originally. TDS isn't a classic like the originals, but it can definitely stand on it's own. Maybe it's best to just call it Thief Lite. And that's a whole lot better than no Thief at all.
