Wow! It's real! How much of Deus Ex's locations are real? Excellent.
Yeah, I though it was dumb. I've come round to liking it.
I'm really into Deus Ex now. It is fantastic. Just talking to the Rooks and excecuted Rock, the zyme dealer. Love the multiple pathways and the moral dilemmas. Must go play now.

And yes, the Laser sight rocks.
It can take a bit of aquinting to see it in the distance, but where it is is where it hits. I'm not quite sure where the scope = no laser comes from as it's never disabled the laser for me, even zoomed in. Although I've been playing it without any patches recently, so that could explain it.

D'JK, having both the scope and laser sight in the same weapon doesn't stop the laser sight from being turned on or off, it just seems to reduce it to nothing more than a meaningless red dot, no longer ensuring that the bullet will strike where the dot is. Sorry for not making it more clear.

Battery Park is real - I don't know how accurately it's represented, though (a big castle-thing in the middle of a park, eh?). And so is Hell's Kitchen, again, probably not very accurately depicted - and of course Liberty Island.
Hmm, that's not too much is it? It felt like more...

Most of the locations in Deus Ex are real. Some are more accurately represented than others. Keep in mind the limitations of the game engine and most people's computers, and then notice that the number of windows outside a building don't match the number you see inside, etc. This really can't be helped; I strongly suspect that the new Unreal engine will not impose these kinds of limits.
Some places are represented mostly by their general ambience rather than building-by-building accuracy. A certain religious location in a certain city, later in the game, does not exist, according to someone who actually lives in that neighborhood.
As for Hell's Kitchen, I don't know how accurately it's represented, map-wise, but they sure got the feel of the place right. I know someone who used to live there. Deadly place.

That "big castle-thing" in the middle of the park is Castle Clinton and was a fort built to protect NY harbor during the War of 1812. It's quite real.

Quite some time ago, Grundy took a trip to New York and took some really nice photos where you can see just how well ISA recreated parts of Battery Park and Liberty Island...
The thread is here...
I can only imagine that the rest of the places in the game were recreated just as well...
(Note Warren Spector's reply in that thread..)

Nice pictures of Battery Park and the Statue. Very nice indeed.
The maps in Deus Ex have always (well, mostly, anyway) been very realistic and have always felt real to me. Really sucks you in that way and doesn't let go.
I can vouch for the accuracy of the A51 map and level...off the record, of course.

Funny, that when a thread starts "Just got Deus Ex" people are still insensitive enough to mention "areas" that the newbie to the game knows nothing about. Errr, ever heard of a spoiler? And in the same thread others 9who know who they are) are careful not to spoil it. i thank you.
I've changed my mind. The steath pistol is great when fitted with a laser sight. Two shots to the head and it's all over. I'm glad to see it as I've been wasted by single shots to the head with pistols many times. Hazard of Realistic that happens rarely now that I've learnt how to play better. They never even see me coming. . . And who said you can't play real stealth? The first time a guy sees me is when they turn just in time to be prod-shocked prior to execution by stealth pistol (or the last thing they see is muzzle flash). They still make noise damn it and a knife to the head is noisy too. That prod has too little ammo. I've saved it to max capacity now.
Another Q - I pop these guys and want to move them but can;t pick them up because "I don't have space for the weaponX". But I don't want to pick up the weapon. Can I pick up bodies without searching them?
