Just got Thief GOLD, a question about patches. - by CandyStick

Hi guys.
I just got a copy of Theif Gold. I finally figured it was about time I try the famed Theif series. I am not really a fan of stealth elements I've seen in other games, but figured, since Theif is made by same guys who did System Shock 2, it's really a no brainer to give it a try. Anyway, before I install, I am curious if there is a texture pack upgrade for the game like the one for SS 2? I read through the sticky on top, but it doesn't mention it unless I've missed it. Thanks in advance, and off I got to install (on Windows Vista, so hopefully it will work).

I fixed your misspelling of Thief in your topic title. I suggest you do the same for your post.
SS2 and Thief were not made by the same teams - one was made by Looking Glass and the other by Irrational. Some individuals worked on both games.
No, a texture upgrade project for Thief Gold does not exist. However one which upgrades the objects does, and may be released within the next month or two.

Cool, thanks. It's not a really big deal, but it always helps with oldies like Theif. Should I get all of these or just play as is. And drawbacks? And fine DN, I'll fix the spelling if it bothers you so much. ;)
I am talking about these two:
Thief 1 & Gold AI Mesh & Skin Patch (GIF Version) - 4.83 Megs - readme.txt
This patch will equip your Thief 1 or Gold game with Thief 2 style meshes and skins. The GIF version offers skins with 256 color. Made by Daemonoite.
Thief Gold Texture Patch (Hardware Version) - 5.32 Megs - readme.txt
This patch will replace your Thief Gold textures with updated ones from Thief 2. Made by Orgy.

I was just about to fix the spelling, BUT I think I'll just leave it now. :p
Anyway, I just tried
THIEF. Intro doesn't work, not even the credits work (when I click on credits, nothing happens), and the game hangs after few seconds in training, actual first mission seems to work fine (I was able to run around for a bit). But I would rather have the full experience, with intro, briefings, and training so I know what I am doing. I tried installing the codecs from disc, and it didn't fix anything. Anyone running the game sucesfully on Vista? Any help would be appriciated.

You can always open the CD and go to the movies folder and watch it through there (if they work). My briefings somehow stopped working halfway through the game so I had to resort to doing that.
As for the texture patches, can't advise you on those; I played vanilla.

I mentioned that I did the codec install from disc, as for dual care problem, when I checked "Affimity", it only showed that the game was using one. I GUESS I can live with having to watch cutscenes seperatly, but I wish the training would work at least, so I could learn how to play.
