Mortis, everything you said is great for beginners since TDS is originally one big training mission to learn about the loot, arrows, shops, city, physics, etc. As an experienced player, I would rather use NH's Minimalist Project to avoid suffering through all that mediocrity.

Loot Glint : Precious stones and metals to shine and sparkle unless Im mistaken.
TDS doesn't do shine or sparkle-- that effect is a
beacon. A regular flash, like clockwork, visible from yards away. An extremely "gamey" element, like most of the changes TDS made.

I have to agree there 100%.
They even forced you to rely on it - you will see multiple objects (eg. cups, places) that are perfect duplicates of each other, and you won't know which ones are loot and which ones are junk untill you pick it up or wait for the loot glint.
What they SHOULD have done is actually used a different texture for loot objects, make it very subtle, so that you have to use your own skills with your eyes to decide if its loot or not. I think one of the mods (New Horizon's Minimalist mod, or John P.'s texture pack does this).
We are doing this for the Dark Mod.

That wouldn't have helped though, because the item highlight is thick and blue. It makes it difficult to distinguish objects up close. If they wanted to get rid of the loot glint, they'd would've had to change the highlighting as well.
Of course, I've already seen the screens; Dark Mod won't have that problem.
