Well then. Command and Conquer 4 (
http://www.commandandconquer.com/cnc4/pressrelease.html) has been announced, promising to not only bring an end to the Tiberian storyline but also to shake up many aspects of the traditional C&C style. This will apparently include 'class-based gameplay*, mobile bases and persistent player progression throughout all game modes'.
Release is planning for some time in 2010 - they claim it is being developed exclusively for PC and while it's not mentioned in that press release, (
http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/commandandconquer4/news.html?sid=6213111&tag=topslot;title;1) it appears that there will be no DRM but you will have to be logged in to an online service to play at all, a la Games for Windows Live.
*Please EA, don't mean like C&C Sole Survivor.

Haha C&C Sole Survivor, it's been a long time since I've heard or even thought about that 'game'. Everyone, including me, seems to have blocked it from their memory.

Constant online authentication != DRM :roflcopter: or :picard:?

I wonder how far my "Fuck your GfW" policy will take me? I already skipped two games just because they utilized that POS.

Good news!
C&C may not be the most sophisticated of RTS games, but I do love me some C&C action, that's for sure.

Nah, completely lost my interest to any EA made C&C.

Still yet to see Red Alert 2 being topped. That game kicked extreme ass.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger.

Aimed solely at EA PR monkey. No collateral damage intended.

The quote in the thread title gains a whole new level of meaning once you know that Joe Kucan was diagnosed with cancer in 1998. They started shooting the cutscenes for Tiberian Sun one day after he finished his chemotherapy.
Anyway, most of the info makes me very excited about this game, but that first screenshot looks more like a mod for C&C3 than a new game.
Time will tell. Hurr Red Alert pun!
