In the middle of your screen, you may have noticed what we call the "Light Gem."
If it is completely dark, you are not seen. Sometimes you cannot find a good enough shadow to hide in. Try couching to see if the light gem grows darker. Also, make sure your sword or arrows are not selected until you are ready to use them. The blackjack is always ok to have at the ready.
Hide the bodies of your enemies. If you spill their blood, a water arrow will clean it up, but after some time passes, the stain will disappear on its own.
Lastly, be careful not to make noise - inch ahead slowly on anything but grass or where you have shot a moss arrow to deaden the sound.
