So the name of something is bad if it doesn't refer to something known by everyone? That's almost as patronising as TMNT being called Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles in the UK because apparently the producers thought no one in the UK would know what a ninja was, it being a US thing and all

I always thought that was because they wanted us young impressionable yoofs to think of the turtles as more "heroic", and less "ninja". Didn't want ninjas to seem too cool, etc etc (and clearly that was a sterling success).

While I agree with you about the patronising thing (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone come to mind), that's not what prompted the Ninja<-->Hero swap. That was because people thought "ninja" had excessively violent connotations.

FWIW I've never played Ocarina of Time (what am I, 8 years old)
Do I seriously have to break out the "childish things" quote? I'm almost as old as you and I fucking love Zelda. OoT is my 3rd favourite, too.

I love Zelda and A Link To The Past. The rest of the series can basically DIAF.

I guess I had bad information. So stupid to worry about the name like that anyway, given that you are watching turtles armed with weaponry, exacting violent retribution no matter what it's called.
Still, I don't agree that titles are only good if every word used is in everyone's lexicon. How dumbed down to things need to be, especially in an age where understanding of anything is usually a few smart phone minutes away.

Sorry Jason but OoT basically is A Link to the Past, just with the suck removed.

Yeah, they're basically the same game (?). What was I thinking.

There was no suck in LTTP.

Both games use a dual-world mechanic and both follow a similar structure -- three introductory dungeons in the "light world," and a more thorough game in the "dark world," with stuff like three pendants or whatever unlocking the Master Sword. Acquiring the Sage Maidens in LttP, acquiring the power of the Sages in OoT. The list goes on. OoT is basically a 3D remake of LttP, I noticed it right away.
As for the suck... mostly to do with LttP's clunky controls and tinny music. LttP mostly just irritated me more than anything else.
Oh, and by the way -- the first Zelda game to use an ocarina was Link's Awakening.
