Got to agree with ZB here.

Eh I was using BS just as an example of how merely saying "we're going back to roots" doesn't mean much by itself. My point is that, as I said, I'm just wee bit skeptical of these kind of claims in gaming industry (or any, for that matter). PR and all. And, like it or not, there are good reasons behind streamlining games, as well.

Ah yup, inXile's crowd-funded RPGs are certainly looking like they're being streamlined to hell for fickle, mainstreamed audiences.

I don't understand why you have to be so hostile and rude to everyone.

This is TTLG, voicing an opinion is a dangerous, dangerous thing. I seem to be getting flak all across the boards lately. I blame the wine . . .

Got to say that I completely agree with ZB in regards to Bioshock, if that`d been funded by the fans then we'd have got a completely different game. Far more SS2 based than what ended up. Would have been a FAR superior game imo.

Honestly, my inner skeptic is kind of anticipating the rage that will ensue when these games do come out and have been streamlined to all hell. Bioshock was supposed to be going back to the roots too...
For this game (Numenera), with it being funded by fans they wouldn't dare streamline a thing. The backlash would be IMMENSE. Never underestimate the fury of an internet community :p. Especially when they are the ones paying your bills.

Fair enough, but the point of my post regarding the BS example was that it genuinely seemed to be following through on its "spiritual successor" promise, until a party with absolutely no interest in said spirit became the majority backers of the project. Healthy skepticism is always good to maintain, but I feel these kickstarter projects already start off on the right foot by nature of the people actually investing in the game are the same people who care about the game itself, it's legacy and roots, etc. Do I still have skepticism? Of course. I wonder whether the budgets they accrue will actually be enough to fulfill their ideas to the extent they envision them. I wonder about the plausibility of full functionality across multiple OSs with little to no bugs. I wonder about the size of the games and their worlds. There's still a lot of potential for the games to be buggered up, but what I'm NOT wondering about is how much the game is being affected by someone not involved in the actual design and development of the game holding all the cash back saying "well, we'd really prefer it if you guys did it
this way."

If streamlining as used in the context we're using it was about cutting out redundancies and extraneous features that don't necessarily enhance the game experience, I would be more inclined to agree with you. But since that stuff generally happens anyway, and streamlining more often means something akin to "let's bind the use, sprint, and cover functions to a shared key!", I'll continue to be on the "not" side of it.

Your opinions are usually terrible.
