Hello,
I've played thief for years, and recently purchased thief gold, (by the way they now sells a collectors edition dvd including thief gold, thief 2, and deadly shadows ! :D) and started the campaign.
Now i have a new problem i never ecountered before : when i kill a zombies with holy water, i am often killd by a body part hitting me. :wot: It never happened before, and it is now VERY dangerous for me to kill zombies. It happened three times now, the first time i was only injured, and the others killed.
I don't know if it happens because i now have a faster computer, and it makes the body parts fly faster...or is it thief gold ?
Did that happened to anyone else ? Do you know if it is normal ?
Thank you.

Yes, this is perfectly normal. It is most noticeable in Fan Missions where you get a Holy Sword (or something like it that can kill zombies). It seems random as to whether it affects you, but one thing you can do to minimise the effect is to backstep when you hit the zombie with the sword.
For holy water arrows, the only advice is to not stand too close!

Use fire arrows from a great distance.

Yeah, holy water or fire arrows, stand back when using them. If they get too close, stop and run back a bit. I love using those arrows on them, sooo much fun to watch them explode.

The sound is almost as good as watching it. *cackles* For some reason I get a perverse pleasure out of the squishy zombie sounds. lol (Which is hilarious as dead things totally creep me out usually)
But yeah, zombies are always safest killing from a distance.
One thing you can do, too, is 'knock them out', with a sword (assuming you can do that safely) then move back - far back - and explode them with a holy water arrow. Only takes one shot then and you can be safely out of harm's way.

You are not the first, nor will you be the last to experience this. I've been killed numerous times by flying zombie parts. :D

Thank you for your advice, now i know it's a normal thing to be killed in such a way. (If you can call getting killed by an expoding zombie's flying limb normal)
But i still think it occures way more often than it used to (since i play with a faster computer) , because these body parts fly way faster, and thus farther than before. I'm not 100% sure if that is correct, my memory could fail me. (If i'm REALLY far, and it happens i'm in a limb's trajectory it will SILL hurt me)
I noticed some things in games being affected (or controlled) by the cpu clock, and i wonder if this may be one of them. An example in thief would be the items in the buy menu, which now spins incredibly fast.

Back when I was still a novice, I recall actually being killed a few times by exploding zombie parts :ebil: in Cragscleft. Of course, I quickly realised that I was simply too close to them as they exploded. Then I began practicing the art of exploding zombies from great distances. From afar, it was easy to see that zombies explode rather violently and that the zombie parts shoot out quickly. Knowing what I knew about the awesome physics engine (way ahead of its time) in Dark Project from hurling myself into walls and also taking damage, I deduced that it applied to the proximity of exploding zombie parts as well.

I guess i was just really lucky the first two times i completed the game.
I was shocked to be killed in one hit by a flying limb (i mean the hit emptied a full health bar, expert level).

I made a (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LFB8fqLZUA) video showing this effect a while ago. The relative speed of an object compared to Garrett, for example a sword or arrow, determines the damage you receive. This is a side effect of the way the Dark Engine calculates such damages.
