King's Bounty, a game everyone should be playing... - by warcrow

I'm currently replaying now, this time as a mage. I'm still surprised by how well balanced it is- challenging without being over the top.
Recently had a price drop on Gamersgate too, I believe.

I herad the game is much more challenging as a Mage--is this true?

Maybe at the endgame, where the offensive spells just don't cut it. You still can cast two supporting/disabling spells right off the bat though.

My favourite thing to do is hypnotise an enemy stack (to cause an entertaining distraction in the ranks), then use sacrifice on it to reinforce my own guys.

Phantom and Pain Mirror are about as close to cheating as anything I've ever seen in an RPG.

Well they're not really offensive are they. I'm talking stuff like Fire Rain(even with the +30% fire damage artifact). The enemy stacks get so big that you just can't outdamage their total HP.

Yeah, that's when you switch to level 3 Pain Mirror, which pretty much annihilates anything powerful, hopefully after they attack some weak ass phantom or totem on the first turn. OTOH, I found simply having a giant stack of sprites (once you have access to the elven hordes) and using Phantom on them every turn was good enough to win all but maybe 2 battles.

I'd have to go with no, though I am not very far in. It doesn't feel much different from the Paladin I played last time even though I've increased the difficulty level.

Well at the beginning it's certainly the easiest class, you just Fireball everything into oblivion.

Eh....the thing about mages is that if you can't find the spells you need, it can get really, really rough. And towards the end game, those thrice damned black dragons are a major pain in the ass.
