I just found a news article in my favourite german online gaming magazine today. But what could this be all about?

Does anyone of you know what this new big Star Wars game could be all about? I'm quite excited although the last installments of the star wars game franchise weren't that...well...great. :bored:

interesting...by calling it "The Old Republic" rather than "Knights of the old republic" the game ceases to be KOTOR 3, therefore leaving it open for a single player sequel. maybe this will get all the whiners to shut up.

Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place approximately three hundred years after the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR).
They use an explanation similar to that in KOTOR 2 for what happened to Revan, but other than that, they seem to want to distance themselves from it as much as possible. I think that's a good thing. Now if they would only make it without a monthly fee attached, and I
might get interested.

Pricing for Star Wars: The Old Republic will be determined and announced at a later date.
This is at least the slightest bit encouraging, as at least they haven't said "yes, monthly fee" so perhaps it's still being considered to have it be free to play.
The one thing that is suspect is the look of the game is steering towards a more simple "cartooney" look ala WoW. I really hope they take a page out of the Guild Wars playbook; an MMO can be detailed and "realistic" in look and scale, free to play, have a more complex skill/attributes system and it will attract a very large playing audience. Please BioWare, if you just so happen to be reading any of this, you don't need to make it like WoW to be successful!

Don't get me started on the Guild Wars financial system. Suffice it to say it's not that great as it's made out to be, and there's always this or that string attached if you want to enjoy the game at its full potential.
