frobber, a very heartfelt thank you for this incredible campaign! :thumb:
It was wonderful to revisit the city and especially the cathedral. It had been so long since I played the first episodes, that I was very pleasantly reminded how jaw-droppingly impressive that view is from the upper ledges. WOW!! I still can't figure how you pulled that off without poly-hell crashiness.
I must admit that I had to replay Reversing The Order from the start because I was unsure of what to do and where to do it, but once I figured out when and where to look for Alisha, all fell into place.
Revisiting previous maps, and making it fun and interesting is a huge accomplishment! Masterfully done!
On another note, these maps got me wondering.... what about the possibility of providing one (or both) of these maps as a base for a FM contest? I mean, the potential story lines are nearly infinite, and the architecture allows for unparalleled gameplay. ....just a thought. :)
Again, many thanks! :)

I would call it the 'contest from hell' -- given how many resources are used up just for the terrain.

that last patch did the trick... with the overrides that is. :thumb:

Both the Thief 2 game and the FM need patches for the german edition to work. If you have patched the Thief 2 game to version 1.18, and if you are playing with the Episode6_v1d_Patch.zip patch -- then...
1. Check your objectives about her - (not likely, but she may have made it home).
2. If these objectives haven't checked off (for her to be home safe)...
Go into the doctor's office next to the pub in the town square and read the book in the medical records room. That (among other things) will release her into the mission. If you see her inside the pub, then sneak up close behind her until she faces the backdoor to the room -- then hide. That (among other things) will get her moving. Normally the master clock forces these things to happen -- but it refuses to run in the german edition. Therefore -- in the german edition -- if you just wait in the pub, she will never arrive -- and so I have added several triggers to force these events if the player explores and/or reads scrolls and books.
I need to move this post to here, but it is in reference to (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1260825#post1260825) this post in another thread, but I couldn't post it there because it's too off-topic.
Frobber deleted some self-admittedly self-indulgent "BS" in response to a mis-read post, which was probably smart of him, but then I thought (and here the original post starts):
Aww ... now everyone is going to miss how magnaminous frobber was being to Mozart when he compared the great composer to himself. :joke: (Just kidding.)
The reference is too good to just let pass by, though. It's a scene from the movie Amadeus, after Mozart performs his opera Seraglio.
KOTP didn't really strike me in this way when I played it because I had a lot of fun with it, but it's funny to think about a hypothetical exchange between frobber as Mozart and Oneiroscope as Emporer Joseph of the Austrian-Hungarian empire after he presents his masterpiece to the Emporer:
MOZART
So then you like it? You really like it, Your Majesty?
JOSEPH
Of course I do. It's very good. Of course now and then - just
now and then - it gets a touch elaborate.
MOZART
What do you mean, Sire?
JOSEPH
Well, I mean occasionally it seems to have, how shall one say? (he
stops in difficulty; to Orsini-Rosenberg) How shall one say,
Director?
ORSINI-ROSENBERG
Too many notes, Your Majesty?
JOSEPH
Exactly. Very well put. Too many notes.
MOZART
I don't understand. There are just as many notes, Majesty, as are
required. Neither more nor less.
JOSEPH
My dear fellow, there are in fact only so many notes the ear can
hear in the course of an evening. I think I'm right in saying that,
aren't I, Court Composer?
SALIERI
Yes! yes! er, on the whole, yes, Majesty.
MOZART
(to Salieri)
But this is absurd!
JOSEPH
My dear, young man, don't take it too hard. Your work is inge-
nious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes,
that's all. Cut a few and it will be perfect.
MOZART
Which few did you have in mind, Majesty?
Pause. General embarrassment.
JOSEPH
Well. There it is.
:joke: :laff:
ps, and just to hit the point one last time: I just thought this was funny as a joke. As it turns out, even O's original concern had nothing to do with KOTP's elaborateness or design at all but how long it would take to d/l, and even then there wasn't any suggestion to actually take stuff out, so the above doesn't really apply at all. I just thought this was funny to think about when frobber mentioned it, since KOPT is, if nothing else, *big*. As for myself, so far I've loved playing every minute of it (not finished yet...).
frobber on 10/5/2005 at 19:25
Oneiroscope was asking elsewhere for KotP to be sliced into smaller files -- as has been done with other large FMs -- to segment the download process for dialup modems. I initially took this to mean that I should cut the FM into pieces and presumed somehow that this meant pulling out extraneous material. But that was -not- what Oneiroscope meant and until sanity was restored I had taken some umbrage over the thought of KotP being 'too big' and wrote the following refering exactly to the scene so wonderfully protrayed by demagogue above...
Not to sound too pompous, but Mozart was once told that his music had too many notes -- and so he asked which notes should be deleted? If you can answer that question for KotP, please be my guest.
So anyhow, having re-read what was really said, and removed what I wrote about it, I thought for demagogue's sake that I should paste that message here.
I am sypathetic the 56k modem users, but I'll have defer to the server and CD/DVD burning wizards to help get this distrubuted.

Ahhh….frobber, I'll say that you've been quite stand up about this whole new mission. Despite weeks and weeks of rigorous testing and your continual fixes, not everything was caught. Nonetheless, upon release you've faced up to all issues and released >multiple< patches to try and get this monstrously complex set of missions working without fail. You've faced the questions, challenges, problems, and criticisms with not a complaint. You've touched as it should be touched…to massage it further to perfection.
I say Huzzah! :thumb:

I thought that was the best ending to any FM I've seen. {The rest was pretty damn good too! :) )
I've loved this series, thanks Frobber.
