I mean yeah, Facebook is no replacement; if nothing else, social networks, reddit, etc. are more abstract in the way they condense information and present it in a non-linear fashion. A forum is just a textual conversation.
Got into a long argument with a friend about whether the death of forums actually mattered. Her argument: the IDEA of forums is around and unchanged, and Reddit is simply an evolution, and the logistical difference aren't that important (or at least, not interesting to her). That kids growing up today won't have any desire for forums because they are inefficient with the way they present information.
Very sad stuff.

Doesn't make me sad in the least. Have you tried to carry on an intelligent conversation with some of those 'kids'? I swear they can't focus long enough to get out two semi-coherent sentences and those will still leave you scratching your head wondering wtf. Maybe more will be attracted to TTLG when they grow up a little bit, but til then I'd rather not have to deal with angst-ridden 15 yr. olds who have an over abundance of hormones and who think Call of Duty is The Bestest Game God EVAR Invented.

Most of the kids hang around 4Chan, and tumblr. Where everything is in your face, and nothing is left to the imagination. They are too busy looking at the pretty pictures to bother carrying on a conversation.
