Bonjour! I'm in Villereal, France, and wonder if any French authors can recommend any specially fantastic places nearby to take photos for textures? I'm here until Wednesday (Aug 28th). I've pretty much got all the textures I can get out of Villereal itself. Also got some from Castillonnes! Everywhere I look all I see are wonderful settings for Thief!

I don't know the south west of France very well, especially that part between Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrénées where you're at, so I can't help with anything in a 100km radius. However, if you have a car, you should visit Carcassonne which is roughtly a 3 hour drive from your location. It's a large fortified medieval city with interesting architecture and lots of thiefy stuff to see and texturize.
It can get a bit crowded with tourists in summer but then it was pretty much the same thing during the middle ages so...

Thank you, Briareose H. I probably would have better luck posting in the French forum, but my French is too rudimentary. Glad I got at least one response here :). I'll see if anyone here with a car would like to take that drive.

I don't know the lot et garonne, where you are right now. I do know a few places near Albi though, which are 170 km top, south east from your location. Maybe a bit too far.
There's the old center of Albi with its cathedral, which is really amazing. Same with the old center of Gaillac, Lisle sur Tarn and rabastens but much smaller. There are a couple of fantastic medieval villages nearby, like Puycelsi, Bruniquel and Castelnau de Montmirail. I have tons of photos from these places :)
I recommend Carcassonne as well, it's unique but too far from your location.

Hey, 30 kms from here, north west, Monbazillac, it's castle and also it's great wine :)
Go 9 kms more, always north, Bergerac... lovely place and great wine too (yep, always wine...!)
In fact, there's so many places to see where u are...

Indeed, you're in the good area ;)
You got many mountains too. If you like natural place, just take a walk up there, the view is awesome!
And If you want a piece of advice, have no problem about driving in the small roads, you can find some old villages and old churches. Sometimes ruined, sometimes not.
I can't tell you exactely how and where it is because I live in Normandy (10 hours of driving from your position lol).
But I oftenly go there in the summer to see my grand parents in Perpignan and I saw many good things! :thumb:
Ha! Before I forget, there is a cool place to go: "Le Fort LaGarde".
And how about: "Forteresse de Salses"? This is a good place too! ;)
There are also some caves and canyon to visit in region! :)
This is so stupid that I have forgotten the name of these places and villages! But I think that you could find some in the touristics offices or maps if you look for well...
Good luck!

Thank you so much everyone!
I was able to go to Monbazillac and of course I did purchase some wines there - marvelous! Hard to say which I liked more - the textures or the wine. And we went to see some medieval structures built into the sides of cavern complexes, very high up. The various torture devices on display in one place fascinated both me and my husband. They are very awful, and you have to try and remove yourself from the fact that they were once used on real people. You just can't look at them otherwise.
But everywhere I looked I was seeing Thief and having the most wonderful time! The French countryside and her small villages are a real feast for the eyes. And most people are very helpful and happy to talk about their village.
