L.A. Noire - by EvaUnit02

The Manhunt 2 port took years to happen (and I suspect it only happened because the console versions didn't do so well thanks to the censorship), the Bully port was a total disaster, no Red Dead Redemption (which Rockstar did make), and let's be honest, GTA4 took over a year and a half to be improved, at which point I seriously doubt most people cared anymore.
Rockstar's recent history on PC is less than promising. You want to play this game so bad? Go buy a PS3.

I really don't care all that much. If L.A. Noire's PC port is borked beyond belief, I'll get the PS3 version. GTA IV's biggest problem was the R* social network, which was removed. Performance-wise, it's a decent port - not as good as it should have been, but people moaning about it being as slow as a legless dog crawling through molasses are probably setting everything to super-uber-maximum (which the console versions ran at a fraction of) and then complaining about it.

Got one and am likely to get
LA Noire on it. I agree, there's reason to be cautious re: the PC port - but dismissing it completely because of
GTA IV strikes me as silly internet overkill.
Edit: .I did overreact at your earlier post, though - writing back at what I thought you'd write rather than what you actually wrote. Sorry about that.

It`s good news no doubt, but yeah...that lil` matter of GTA port... :/
GTA4 was ported by Rockstar Toronto, LAN is being ported by Rockstar Leeds. There's no precedent here to run around like headless chickens, spouting that the sky is falling. So everyone should just STFU and reserve their judgement until the port is released.
Besides Rockstar Leeds made GTA: Chinatown Wars, which was by far the best GTA since San Andreas. Chinatown Wars for me single-handedly made GTA relevant again, it was everything GTA4 should've been. They also helmed a successful enhanced DS -> PSP port, which shits upon the original DS version from great heights.

You sure about this? I got both handhelds and am considering which one get it for. From what I read PSP version is (obviously) superior graphics/sound wise, but DS stylus minigames are supposed to be better. Still, after Puzzle Quest, gonna go for PSP i think.
About the port - never said "don`t buy it" but "good news" instead. Still,l I reserve my right to bitch on about that old port -
it was not cool putting it mildly, because Rockstar is not exactly a struggling studio and could well afford few more weeks/bucks for optimization. I know they eventually did sort it out, but still...

The majority of the mini-games were translated flawlessly in the PSP version, IMO. Making molotovs at the petrol stations can be a little fiddly; the tattoo parlour one absolutely needs the precision of a proper pointer, but there's only one mission in the entire story campaign where you have to bother with that and the game doesn't care if you cock it up.

Honestly, scots taffer was the very FIRST person I thought of (and I don't know him and he couldn't give two shits about me) when I got into this game. It is SO up his alley, and being a cinema fan he could do worse with a new game this year. Recommended, scots! :thumb:
Cheers mate, will definitely take a gander on the basis of your and other's comments. :)

I run everything at uber-maximum and love how it performs on my system.

GTA IV ran like shit on any PC when it was released. Now it runs much better, but it took a ton of patching to get there.
Thirith on 26/6/2011 at 18:09
Other than the horrible installation process (GfWL, Rockstar Social Club etc.), which required me to install the game twice or three times before it worked, it actually didn't run too badly - but as with Crysis you simply couldn't turn it up to max. To be honest, I don't believe that you can now, at least not every single slider.
What I had, though, was a bug where if I turned the detail up too much, the game would freeze after 20 minutes. It wasn't ever clear what "too much was", so it took me quite a while to get the game working properly.
