This exclusive content racket is ridiculous. You have to buy the game 5 times from 5 different places just to get the complete game! Plus, you're actually paying in advance for better gear, completely unbalancing the experience. Between this and the DX3 preorder crap, I'd say this is an ugly, dark new chapter in gaming, and not good for anyone.
Extra preorder content is mostly always just cosmetical and ending up being replaced later in games.
It is also not required to get the full experience.

Yesterday I preordered Deus Ex Human Revolution... from a Gamestop. Because I wanted that extra stuff with Tong.
I feel so dirty.

"Mostly" is correct, but not in this case. They're offering additional single player content (2 missions), and not just "outfits." In the case of DX3, preorder pack #1 gives you 1 exclusive mission.
So my point is, the trend is bad. It used to be "horse armor," which most people could just laugh at, but now it's escalating into legitimate content. Content that was probably pulled from the finished game, and won't be available to some people (depending on where you buy the game, how ridiculous is that) even though they are paying full price for it.
dethy - how could you?

Well, the way I see it, it just makes it easier to not bother with games that have me on the fence.
DX3 looks more and more like a disappointment the more info comes out? BAM "purchase pack"-exclusive content.
LA Noir looks like a potentially interesting game, but it's being made by a company that has completely lost my interest with their previous titles? BAM "purchase pack"-exclusive content.
Personally I'd like to thank the number crunchers behind this for making it so much easier to save my money!
However yes, this is yet another undesirable trend that is emerging from the modern games market. Although there's been a pretty steady drip of that for a while now.

It's how they've chosen to combat second-hand industry, the first buyer doesn't have to pay any extra, he just have to pre-order the game (and pre-orders are worth the most for the developer/publisher)
I couldn't find any info on what the different outlets get differently from eachother on deus ex, I could just find what things you get if you pre-order.
Edit: the stuff also does look like re-skins of stuff already in the game, it's not like you aren't getting the satchel, sniper or rocketlauncher in the game already.
Tong's rescue remains to be seen, but I guess you just have to preorder it then.

That, and secured pre-orders are a very important metric for a publisher to determine last stretch marketing funds, it's all a very big deal for them.
However, there's little defense for what Square's pulling with retailer-specific bonuses, that's just prickdom. We got lucky in Europe, you get the full shebang regardless of where you pre-order from, but I'm fearful of potential future developments.

Really? I preordered the Augmented Edition just for the artbook. Getting in touch with my inner artfag, brah.

The likes of Squeenix and 2K Games usually make their pre-order exclusive DLCs available for purchase on Steam at later dates, so DX3's bonus mission likely is of little concern.
The problem is Rockstar with LA Noire though. The pre-order stat buffing horse armour for Red Dead Redemption was never put "back into circulation", so that sets a worrying trend. Will everyone miss out on these two extra missions forever, if we don't pre-order?
EDIT:-
Yeah, I'm happy that the European DX3 Augmented Edition comes bundled with the mission.

New video: (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmj6jDnKMEg) Investigation and Interrogation
Oh man the gameplay looks good. Can you imagine extracting some piece of information from a character than driving across town to see if it check out or not? I mean can you guys imagine the tension of it? Leaving out the usual "Objectives" that you see in videogames and instead just having "Leads". You'd be approaching a building without being able to know whether the persons in it are going to try to kill you, or just trick you, or maybe they'll be completely innocent and you've just been sent on a wild goose chase. Constantly having to read people and try to figure out if you really are getting closer to solving the case or not. This may be wishful thinking but I really do hope that R*/Team Bondi has implemented an option for the trail to simply go cold on a lot of these investigations if you make the wrong move. It'd add so much more tension and deliberation to the proceedings.

Ok, WOW. This game shot to the top of my 'must have' list. I am buying a console around the time this ships, and I assume this will be purchased right along with it. Man, this is shaping up to make up for the huge letdowns that Mafia 2 and Alan Wake were for me.

Yeah, that was fucking impressive.
