Is it in the same family as Age of Mythology? I really, really like AoM.

No. It's a turn-based strategy kinda like Heroes of Might and Magic, or Master of Magic. (
http://www.gog.com/catalogue?search=Triumph+Studios) GOG has the whole series up to now if you were interested. You can check out the screenshots to get a better idea of what they're like.
Personally, I played a fair bit of Age of Wonders, found the Age of Wonders 2 campaign to be kinda hard, so stopped playing that. I picked up Shadow Magic from GOG, but have barely played it. I really need to do that ;)

I loved AoW but found it far too hard. Might re-visit it at some point though to see if I can up my skill in it a little.

Thought it would be appropriate to let any lovers of Fantasy TBS to know that Age of Wonders 3 is officially 2 weeks away from being released to the world. The main website has also gotten a load of updates, so feel free to check it out too:

Its being sold on GOG and Steam, with select European countries getting boxed copies tied to a Steam number. So GOG is the only DRM free version. Its got a regular and deluxe version of the game, both with minor preorder bonuses.
