Don't know why but I found this quite moving.
This is an apparently uncontacted tribe living on the Brazil/Peru border. I can't help feeling they aren't going to be there much longer. It's a short film which was required by the Brazilian Govt to prove these people exist in order to protect them from illegal loggers. It'd be nice if that's true.

They look like terrorists to me.

Ignorance makes you free?
Or is it the lack of pants?
Hm I guess the second one does make sense

Ignorance makes you free?
No idea, how's it working for you?
If I remember correctly lack of masters makes you free, but who knows how these societies work.

There's a lot of policies on indigenous peoples that states don't always do a good job of respecting, much less companies. Timber and civil construction companies are supposed to consult with the tribes before logging or building highways through their land, and bringing diseases in. It's the kind of thing my NGO sometimes works on. Linking int'l environmental law with indigenous rights is all the rage these days.
I think we're a little past the romantic vision of peoples absolutely unknown and completely detached in our age, even with a tribe like this, though I don't know the specific facts about them. But anyway it's still important to let them maintain their way of life.

I guess you could call their chief free, but what about the folks he rules?
Kolya on 4/2/2011 at 18:55
The "last free free people" part was just wrong. These people are neither noble savages in paradise nor is there vice versa any reason to assume their "chief" was suppressing them, if they even have one.
I'm not even sure if they should be left alone. But loggers destroying their space of living is obviously not a good way to introduce them to modern life.
