I saw The Verve in Glasgow in December, for the first date on their first tour together since 1999, so it was their first time together on stage in nearly nine years. It was absolutely electric, Bittersweet Symphony never gets old.

STEELY DAN IN NEW YORK
My favourite band ever playing in the best possible place to see them. I'm really excited for this one, and it's on the first day we arrive!
I want to catch some smaller acts as well while I'm there, but it's not till June and a lot of stuff isn't even listed yet.

12th April - The Debt Offensive, Spice of Life, Soho, London, starts about 8, dunno who else is on. Also 24th April at a burger bar called The Grand Union in Kentish Town.

ARISE THREAD
I had to resurrect this in order to gloat over the supremely awesome
Muse concert I attended last night, my first real "stadium" gig and first time seeing one of my on-again-off-again favourites.
I love how the (
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/muse/2010/brisbane-entertainment-centre-brisbane-australia-1bd29d8c.html) setlist effortlessly breezed between a lot of the big hits from their albums, though the effective focus on the albums dims as you tread back in time.
Pretty much every track I went in hoping to hear got nailed, and one or two surprises (didn't expect Exogenesis at all and it was a very powerful live track, Bellamy's falsetto astounding, and Feeling Good was an amazing crowd pleaser). The crowd were enthusiastic throughout, particularly for the big hits of the past two albums, but still reserved the most love for the oldies, Plug-in Baby and Stockholm Syndrome sending the moshers into a frenzy.
Almost as impressive as the (
http://www.flickr.com/photos/gerry_70/sets/72157625537372236/show/) overall audiovisual production, the big numbers and the quiet numbers, was the connective tissue and jams between songs. The ACDC outro was well received in their stomping grounds and I geeked out to the Ennio Morricone intro to Knights of Cydonia.
A++. Would gleefully buy tickets and jump around again! :cheeky:
Post-script: Most importantly the gig brought a much-needed dimension to the impersonal and frankly silly rock operatics of their latest album.

Count me jealous. I would have loved to see them. But first real stadium gig? Oh you don't know what you missed from the old days. Not by half. Things were so free easy and trippy you cannot imagine. These days are a pale imitation. Not meaning to piss on todays experience mind you.
And I did miss it first time round but Bittersweet Symphony does never get old so SE lost me as well.

Count me surprised!
I've seen Muse four times now and they've steadily gone downhill. Setlists without changes, way too short sets and general disregard of actually offering an experience outside the visual aspects have made me very cautious of attending their gigs in the future. The latest one I saw was 16 songs with stripped sets and 60+ ticket prices. I won't be giving them any more money, unless their next album turns out to be actually great.
I do, however, get how they rock the first time you see them. It's just that it's not what it used to be. Good thing you enjoyed it though. I do remember how incredible the first gig I attended was.
Anyhow, the last gig I saw was Nieminen&Litmanen at a local bar. Scandinavian action jazz (agent jazz) with only a drummer and a keyboardist smashing out on his real Hammond. Just pure genius.
Next gig: Godspeed You! Black Emperor in London at 13th. Can hardly wait!

This thread is so old it almost makes the bands I've seen recently seem fresh, new and relevant.
OK, nothing can do that.
Last gig: Slayer/Megadeth/Anthrax, Nassau Coliseum. Just reliving my high school metalhead days. I was in the pit, realizing a) I'm too old for this shit, b) converse chucks + plastic flooring = slippery, and c) JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I MISSED MOSHPITS. (show before that was equally nostalgic - Faith No More with Rahzel opening. Nice to have them back).
Next gig: Phish's New Year's Eve show at MSG. Not that I'm a huge fan, but their NYE shows are pretty ridiculous. Plus a friend of mine has access to a luxury box, and that's where she's throwing her NYE party. No way in hell I'm turning that down.
