I bought a PS2 a couple of years ago, and that's my first game console. I had decided a year or two earlier that I'd get one eventually (due to various exclusive games), but I was happy to wait until the hardware was cheap enough. My PC dying was the main thing that prompted me to get it when I did -- the price was sufficiently low to make it a tempting alternative. I guess I've bought 8-10 games for it (which is pretty much all I expected to get). I did want one or two of the earlier Harmonix games (Frequency and/or Amplitude), but I've never seen them for sale :/
I'll imagine I'll get a PS3 when it's the same price as this one was. I've never been remotely inspired by X-Boxen, and the Wii looks pretty lacklustre too. I still have designs on a Pandora hand-held, so I expect I'll introduce myself to some of the earlier generations by way of emulation.

I bought a PS2 from my friend a few years back, complete with a stack of games and was never really interested in it. The whole lot got traded in for an original Xbox, which I immediately modded for use with XBMC, but I never really used it either.
At the end of 2007 I got a small bonus from work, enough for an Xbox 360 Elite, an extra controller and a few games, which I already knew I liked (Forza 2 and PGR4 at the top of the list as I am a big racing fiend) and I found this console to be the best one that I had owned and had a whole bunch of games I liked.
I don't really 'PC Game' much anymore. I used a MacBook Pro as my day to day computer, which got replaced by an iMac. At some point down the line my PC broke and I didn't have the inclination to fork out a few hundred pounds to fix it (it badly needed an upgrade too), so I didn't bother.
Whilst I go still play PC games, they are mostly Stuff I Already Own, and I've found I don't miss it in the slightest. There are plenty of games on the 360 to keep my occupied - both exclusives and multi-platform.

The convenience that is not having to worry about specs mostly.

Other than handhelds? I bought a Wii on release, mostly for the novelty factor but also for Guitar Hero-style games to play with friends (I have in fact yet to play them with many people).
Last week I splashed out on a PS3, in order to have a Blu-Ray player for the new television and also to have a pick up and play machine for those nights when I work late and just want to come home and blast away for a while. The other reason I chose a Playstation over the Xbox was that it seems that more Xbox games get a PC release than PS3 games do, so there would be less overlap.

There are exceptions to that. By running HD consoles off of a SDTV you fail to meet the minimum hardware requirements of having a properly functioning brain. Possible symptoms of this include denial of global warming.

Take it to the other thread, boot craves lemming. I'll buy a HDTV when my totally awesome Beovision finally breaks down, until then I am all class.
