Latest Ubisoft DRM measure - all SP saves stored on a cloud server - by EvaUnit02

Hmm.
I quite like the idea of someone else holding my game saves to be honest, as it'd make the transition to a new machine substantially easier.
However, how long are they going to store this data for? Indefinitely? If not, will there be timeout warnings? Will there be any back-up option at all? What if their data centres suffer catastrophic failures (unlikely, but not impossible)?
Also, how long will it be before some wise-ass exec decides to monetise this "feature"? In this day and age where publishers seem hell-bent on squeezing every last penny out of their customers, I'm guessing it won't take long.

It ain't natural methinks!
I guess no more save hex editing and such. Also, yeah, they're totally going to come up with asking for more cash for this "feature".

People like you are why we're all doomed.

Seriously ZB?
I've had a lot of catastrophic PC failures over the years, and game progress has been one of the more annoying things to lose.
But I see you cherry-picked my post purely to make me look a fool without taking into account my criticisms of such a system.
Change the record ZB, your self-important, contentious trolling got old a long time ago.

Although not having to worry about your local game save backups is not without merit, I think the question troubling ZB and everyone else is will the FBI be informed that you did incestous things within your Settlers colony? And will you be placed on a potential sex offenders register because of this
Just how many times did you trot Sam Fisher into the ladies bogs, hmm? And you didn't even flush once.
Seriously tho', not loving this idea either

The contents of save game files are hardly likely to incriminate anybody in any realistic sense, but if ZB's post was in any way implying that I'm the kind of person responsible for the loss of anonymity in modern society, he couldn't be further from the truth :)
I'm betting that simply by entering ZylonBane into Google, I could find out more about ZB than he'd be comfortable with, yet it would be incredibly hard for him to find out anywhere near as much about me.
Isn't that right Clay?

While I'm not terribly averse to using the internet for game authentication (and hell, I use steam for a ton of shit), I'm thinking more along the lines of install game, connect to internet, game checks out, game no longer needs disc OR INTERNET.
Saying "internet connection required" on your box is one thing, but this is "internet connection required AT ALL TIMES", for single player games, which is a different kettle of fish. Hell, even steam lets you play in offline mode (er..for some games, at least). Plus it doesn't look like there's any indication of permitting a local backup of savegames, and you just know the system is going to have a few hiccups here and there.."Sorry, we accidentally deleted all 80 hours of your latest RPG savegame, but hey: nobody else has this problem, so we think it's you."

Ugh, as if everyone dumping savegames and settings into random locations within Users / Documents and Settings wasn't bad enough.
I want all my data stored locally, thank you very much.

Hm... Interesting... I bet it will still be cracked for offline play anyway.
