Latest Ubisoft DRM measure - all SP saves stored on a cloud server - by EvaUnit02

It's a fair point that they didn't have a lot of time in between Ubisoft's fiasco and their own launch and that may warrant
some lenience, but you can rest assured that they didn't exactly scramble to find a solution either - (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1968961#post1968961) where there's a will, there's a way. They likely decided to give it a shot on their own and see how it goes.
Still, it is indeed encouraging to see an EA rep acknowledge the problem and suggest the need for altogether different approaches by saying they need "new solutions", instead of "new servers".

ubisoft gifts a game of your choice to players affected by the outage:
hawx
heroes over europe
prince of persia (the new one)
endwar
which can you recommend ? my friend has pop already....

The only one of those that is really good is PoP. HAWX was ok I guess if you're getting it for free. It's not terrible (and with the love people seem to have for shit like Grid and Dirt, I'm surprised it wasn't a big hit, as it's the flight sim equivalent of that shit).

and the splinter cell conviction crack is out. took them 3days this time. so when will ubi admit that their drm failed ?
Al_B on 1/5/2010 at 00:33
Probably about the same time they admit that the cracks actually work.

Does it work? I don't remember the SH5 or AC2 cracks
working very well.

I don't believe preventing piracy was its job to begin with. The big evil corporations want control, and what better way to do it than to force everyone to be connected to their servers in order to enjoy their product? With the flip of a switch Ubi can deny millions of people of their purchased right to use the software. That kind of control must leave jizz in their pants. . .

It's not just that. They've looked at how other companies- Google, Facebook- make $$$ from amassing huge databases on people and want a bit of that action, and at how other companies combine that with a delivery system- _Live and Steam- to make money from both, as well as the control aspects. Ultimately they probably want some sort of subscription based MMO like system for game delivery which bypasses the hated retail outlets and 3rd party distributors entirely allowing them control of content, a constant money stream without having to share it with EB/ Gamestop, an end to second hand sales and the ability to collect 'useful' information about their customers.

i only know the ac2 one worked and since the sp:c crack is from the same "group" I guess so, yeah, should work. at least a few commenters claimed so. and my question about ubi admitting anything was not serious. they can come up with whatever they want to justify their system. the only thing I read about the pc version of conviction is that it is plagued by disconnects in coop AND issues with the DRM. even more so than with AC2 they say. PC Gamer UK gave the game ~80 but did not recommend it due to the DRM. as did a few other review sites/magazines. I doubt this will help but it's good that the magazines that always go "soft" on the industry stand up for once. I would boycott news about ubi games in general.

It works (unless there are some hidden errors later in the game, but I haven't heard about such reports).
